If I remember my Generation Kill, it's the mount for the night goggles.

Yep it's called a Rhino mount so you can put on various optics on the helmet

Thanks for posting all these, Kato.  Somehow makes it so much more real than news photos ever have.

Now stay in America.

A couple of years later, our unit was finally issued better gear (still not Army standard though  icon_confused)

Went from the interceptor vest to the modular tactical vest?

Memorial Day weekend is here.  Unfortunately I've got the flu, so I'll be staying at home for the duration.  The only thing I'll be doing is fixing all my gear:

I was reasonably prepared when I enlisted in the Corps at age 17, 1994.  Just like everyone at boot camp, I questioned why the hell am I here? I'm a little ashamed to say that the only reason I made it through was not of professionalism, but fear of coming back home as a failure.  I did well, and choose the MOS 0331 heavy gunner. Trained in Camp Pendleton, CA at the school of infantry (Hotel Co) and was immediately shipped off to Haiti for Operation Uphold Democracy.  This was a difficult time for me, for I had just got married and even had kid on the way.  Haiti would become my first combat tour.

Edit: I'm tired....more to follow
