Don't know how long they're gunna stay up, but you can check out Megatron's design here.

It's different, for sure, but part of me is definitely happy that he's no longer a handgun.

I'll start adding images in this thread, again assuming they stay as pictures and don't magically turn into red X's ...

The pics are all based on toy model prototypes, and are not the final design of the movie's character.

To insectoid looking.  I don't like a lot of the design concepts.  I'd think the transformers would have more protection over their robotic joints if they were in battle all the time.

I can't see any fans of any of the previous Transformers generations liking these designs.  Didn't they try marketting to fans at all before designing these stupid things?  At this point, I'm out on the movie, and doubt I'll want to ruin my kids impressions of the Transformers too.

Ah, the classic epic battle between flame-painted Peterbilt trucks and robotic Ent/UFOs.  "One shall stand, one shall fall" indeed.

All we need is for George Lucas to somehow change the animation and art in the original Transformers movie to match these new designs and the madness will truly be complete.

You know what? I don't mind these. The robot designs look more alien, but by and large, they're more consistent than the look of the robots on the cartoon. So long as the characters act like the classic characters, I'm game for a different "look."

I also like that's he not a gun and it's fitting that as a Decepticon he's a flying vehicle.

Geez, what a mess of angles.  Looks like one of those 'draw with magnetic shavings' toys from back in the day.

Between him and the horrid look of the other mechs, I can safely assume the production designer redesigned all the transformers with this insect/tribal tatoo angle/layer'd approach.

And it fucking sucks. The Transformers were defined by their look...armor that covered their bodies that kept all the features of their vehicle mode...you could tell what they were by looking at their bodies....now, they all look like complete shit.

It's different, for sure, but part of me is definitely happy that he's no longer a handgun.

While part of you might be happy "he's no longer a handgun" I hope the rest of you is recoiling in horror at the fact he is now an "alien jet."

Why are they even calling this Transformers?  Why not Robot Switchers or some other generic title that better fits these uninspired designs?

I think he would have been best suited as a tank.

And all I can think of is that Megatron, as a character, didn't want to hide his alien roots. He wanted to stay as the vehicle he was back home. Seriously. Every other character took on an Earth vehicle, why not him? Must have his reasons.

I think the new design is both good and bad. I like the more detailed "anatomy" - and brief glimpses of Prime as a robot are actually pretty cool - but agree with those that say the style is too busy. I appreciate that you just can't get away with the way the characters looked like in the cartoon series - which I love dearly - so I'm willing to give them a little room for change.

Though I hate the fact that Prime has red and blue flames on him, and Megatron's mouth does infact look like a metalic sphincter.

If you're worried about a file getting yanked from somebody elses server and don't have space of your own, just post them here using the Attatch function so they are hosted locally.

And how in the fuck does that look like Megatron in any way?  Jeepers...

I'm hoping this is more like the Cybertron mode and before they take on any characteristics of Earth things.

And if it makes anyone feel any better, the leaked images of Optimus - ignoring the flames - look pretty badass, and seem to be a reasonably faithful modernization of the original cartoon character.

Edit: Kinda messing with the margins to put the two pictures together.

Would it have been too much of a stretch to make him a damned Howitzer?  Seriously....who thought this up?

It sounds like these are concept sketches for an alternate universe series of Transformer comics that takes place in the industrial revolution.

The plane guys look a bit goofy in robot form, and Shockwave looks pretty nice.  Optimus looks good, but unless Ironhide transforms into a tracklaying machine Optimus is going to have a hard time chasing down Decepticons that don't stick to established routes!

Granted, I never had the thought, but after seeing those sketches I'm completely bewildered that it's taken this long for anyone to combine Steampunk and Transformers.  Fits like a damn glove!

Funky shit.

Yeah, I guess that shows how far off the original design the film version of Megatron is. I mean there's not even a faint resemblance, whereas you show that cannon version of Megatron, and any fan gets it in an instant.

It's the head. He had an iconic head. Sounds weird, but it's true.

Why? I couldn't care less if he was originally a gun or a toilet bowl plunger, but I don't think they should have changed him.
