Please don't suck, please don't suck, please don't suckIt does beg the question, however, do we really need a Mass Effect movie? The actual game is about the closest thing we've seen so far to an interactive movie...does making it an actual movie add anything?

I don't think we really need a movie. They can't really do any storyline involving Shepherd. Since part of the point of Shepherd is for any person who played to personalize him/her which might turn a lot of people off from the movie if they adapt Shepherd. I'm intrigued but there are is so much story in Mass Effect.

This can only end badly. The movie cannot possibly live up to the games. Especially ME2.

if they do the movie based on a separate story outside the games, like telling Captain Anderson's story, it could work. Dark Horse comics just finished a 4 issue miniseries about Liara that took place after the prologue of ME2 that was decent even though it fell into the trap of know she'd survive anything that happened because of the time period it was set in, so I have faith they could pull off non-shepard stories.

they did a good enough job of telling anderson's story in a book after me1 was out. not bad by B-grade sci-fi writing and it was written by the same guy who wrote me2's script (afaik), so he's gotten more comfortable in the universe.
i would love to see a story about what happens in between 2 and 3, but as said, i don't see how they could even involve the current storyline from me1 on except for the big points.
they could do a first contact/war story though. all action and violence and michael bay would actually be a benefit for once.

I don't know that I'd like to see a Mass Effect movie about anyone other than Commander Shepard. An origin story would be cool.

Well, there's a lot whole of ground to cover in the Mass Effect universe - Besides Shepards early years (The startings you choose in the beginning), there's the whole Human / Intergalactic wars to cover, the discovery of the Mass Effect Relays and so on...plenty of stuff to go on in my mind.
The thing is, quite a few years ago, Legendady Pictures announced they were going to make a World of Warcraft movie, and then..nothing, so I won't hold my breath waiting for this one. Most likely, they bought the option, and it could be a long time before anything definite happens. And, if they dont move soon, the name itself is probably going to loose momentum, making any possiblity of a movie set in the universe near null.

I think we need a Mass Effect movie because we need something to replace Star Wars.
There hasn't been a good scifi trilogy for this generation of movie watchers, and I think ME really could be the SW of this generation.
There's a hole in the market because people have been afraid to try and fill those shoes, well now that Lucas has crapped all over his own series, there's a spot open if they can do things right.

I think the problem there would be which origin would they choose for her. remember there were 3 pre-service choices and 2 psychological choices. do you make her Captain America or Jack Bauer?

If they set it in a 22nd century brothel and featured Ashley and Liara as sex workers it could be a good porno flick. Oh and Wrex could be the intimidating bouncer and Doctor Chakwas could be the uptight madame.

i think we know the movie wont be a patch on the games, just bringing the feel of the ME universe will be a task anyway, this guy isn't doing anything now ...although he needs to toughen up though

The iconic Shepard is male, so I'm guessing the movie would stick with that, if he even appears.
I admit I love the idea. A big CGI budget will be needed though, to give us Turians, Salarians, and Krogan, let alone Elcor and Hanar.

What if they made a prequel showing how Shepard became a war hero?

looks like they're going the anime route with this movie. I imagine it will be easier to realize the universe that way.

Where did you hear about this? Or did you just divinely pluck this information out of the sky by watching bird migration patterns? That's how I get my news anyway.

I love Mass Effect but hate Anime. It's the cheap, unoriginal way of making a movie, and the result is only going to be seen by a small niche instead of the massive crowds a full movie might have appealed to.

I'm not really that surprised, I've always felt the new look for DA2 had an anime-lite feel to it.
