Are these things fairly durable? I've been thinking of getting one for bicycle touring. They are small, light weight and Amazon claims the Kindle will last a month without using the Wi-Fi. That charge would last a whole tour. How long would one last bouncing around in the bottom of a pannier I wonder?

Get a decent case and it'll do just fine.

Mine's handled a year of getting carried around in my shoulder bag, and that included two trans-atlantic flights and an hour of biking per day during the warm weather.

So, I've ordered a replacement unit (my third) and Amazon is no longer selling the 2nd gen, so I am on the waiting list for the 3rd gen.  Might go with Nook if they do Newspaper delivery

Sorry to rez an older thread, but figured my thought was Kindle related.  I have a first gen Kindle and love it.  I really enjoy getting Asimov magazine delivered to it from Amazon, though really wish they had the SciFi/Fantasy mag.  Though this Spectral Magazine look interesting.  It isn't sub based yet though.  Not sure it will go that route.

Anyway I had gotten a flyer in the snail mail for Science Fiction Book Club and thought that it would be cool if they had a Kindle version.

Do you think that would work?  Kindle/EReader book of the month clubs?
