He's fat, but he's not two seats fat as far as I can tell.  As for being a safety risk, I dunno what that's about.

Hopefully he won't become the champion of the fatties who leads them to the promise land of not having to buy two tickets...

Also, I couldn't pick him out of a fat-man line up as silent-bob....I doubt 100s on board a plane had either.

He thinks otherwise since he bought two seats on his original flight and was booted from the standby flight because there was only one available.

did he say that's why he bought 2?  hell, if I had the money and was stuck with coach I'd buy 2 seats just for an extra buffer zone against the unwashed masses.

Actually, this trip was apparently the first time he'd purchased two seats, and he did it solely for his own comfort, not because he was obligated to do so.  He says he is fine sitting w/ both armrests down, and doesn't require a seat-belt extender.  Southwest is being self-serving when they claim he "usually" does it.

His twitter feed (http://www.twitter.com/thatkevinsmith) and podcast (http://www.smodcast.com/) have the full story from him.

I wanted to echo this.  He bought two seats on the flight into, and had two for the way out but went standby to try and get out earlier.  On the flight he was placed, there was not two seats available.

From his Twitter feed, his original purchase was three seats for him and his wife.  His wife didn't make the trip, and since the extra seat was in his name, he wound up with two tickets out and back.

I am conflicted.  On the one hand, I love Kevin Smith.  On the other, I hate fat people.  On the third (yes, three hands!) I hate Southwest Airlines.

I'm fat enough that I'd have to buy two seats if I wanted to fly. I think it would be just as well to go first class.
Then again with all the hassles of flying now a days I'll give you all a break and not fly at all.

And I'm sorry gellar doesn't like me. crybaby

I don't care enough about this to read any of the articles.  But did the Southwest AA people know who he was when they booted him?  I hope they knew exactly who he was and did it anyway.  I guess famous fat people should get the same treatment as anonymous fat people.

I'm pretty sure they had no idea who he was until it hit twitterdom.

Sorry, but while Smith is pretty big, he's nowhere near that limit.

I think the pilot did know who he was and booted him for some stupid personal reason.

So you're saying someone actually watched Jersey Girls?

Hate fat people?  Without them we would have never gotten king sized Reese's, supersized fries, or all you can eat crab legs.  Fat people?  I love them all.  ...except when I have to sit next to one on a plane.

I think this must just be free publicity for Cop Out (releasing Feb 26) - which I had absolutely no idea Kevin Smith was directing.

That's actually intentional.  There was a story not long ago about how they are being very deliberate about not marketing it as a "Kevin Smith Film".  Smith fully supports this marketing approach.
