Wow! i'm kinda new to ebay (selling), and this was fun and dramatic to watch I decided to put my PSTwo and 10 game collection up on ebay, as I already have a PC and xbox and just don't have time for everything. Plus, I've got my heart set on a big-screen HDTV, and am trying to raise money for that. Well, being scared, I put a reserve on the item at $250. A guy emails me, and identifies himself as "a 15 year old" and asks me what the reserve is. I googled on whether or not I should disclose the reserve, and opinion seemed split, so I decided to go ahead and tell him. He immediately bid the reserve. (the kid's name is muustracks). For days, the item sat at $250, with maybe 20-40 views a day. I was worried because muustracks was only 15 yrs old. (I was wondering if that was below age to even be bidding?). I was thinking he'd win, then not pay. Today it closed, and in the last hour things took off. A guy named bennyinny comes in and jumps the item up to $330 with an hour to go. The guy has a near-spotless 154 rating, with tons of "fast payer!" feedbacks. I'm like "hell yeah!" ahh, but guess who shows up.. muustracks! $355! then, in the last 5 minutes, benny tops him again at $360... ONE MINUTE LEFT. muustracks $365! arrrggh c'mon benny! 45 seconds -- benny $370! 15 seconds - muustracks $380 OH NO! HE'S 15 fer heaven's sakes! FINAL BID - BENNY $385! WOOT! My Buy It Now at the start of this was $325, and arguably, the whole package could be valued at no more than $275. So I think I did pretty good. I'm just real happy it sold to a known good payer, as opposed to a 15 year old kid who signed up to ebay to bid on my item!

Congrats! I've always been too much of a wuss to sell things on EBay. Too afraid of getting ripped off. Sounds like you got a good one, though.

That's GREAT! I gotta start selling things on Ebay. I'm ascared!! It is/was scary. They say 'real men sell without a reserve' but I was too much of a wuss. Luckily, things turned out ok. The guy has already paid, and the transfer is already in progress from paypal to me. Ebay takes out their chunk, but I think it's reasonable condering the multi-million person shopping pool they provide you, and some real nice tools, too. Btw, I highly recommend getting Ebay's free listing tool called "Turbo Lister", which turns all that html coding stuff into a Word like wysiwyg editor, making it very easy to make nice ads. Now if my $1000 painting will just sell

I'm going to have to live through you for now - I'm still scared. Maybe I could start small! Now if my $1000 painting will just sell Maybe we can monitor this sale as our own CG reality show!

Maybe we can monitor this sale as our own CG reality show! Haha.. well, I'm afraid it wouldn't be nearly as dramatic. It's not an auction, but rather a straight "Buy It Now" sale. It's priced $200 to $400 below shop value, and I was hoping it would sell. No luck yet. What's cool is if your item fails to sell, Ebay will let you re-list it one more time for free. If I re-list it, I may do it as an auction (with my wuss reserve, of course )

Here's my eBay story. Back in 2000, I had read on Gamespot that PS2s were going to be in short supply when they were released. Not taking too much notice of it, a few days later I took a trip to Wal-mart. Passing by the shoe department, I saw a line of people sitting on the floor. They said they were there to but PS2s when they came out at midnight. I rushed to a phone, and told my friends to come down there and we could stand in line together, and buy two. What I neglected to tell them was that *I* would pay them back immediately for the second PS2. None of them are willing to go. So I stand in line for 6 hours, and in that time, read all of a book I find in the book section. People keep passing, ask why we're in line, then shake their heads at our stupidity. Finally, midnight rolls around and I pick up my PS2. Joy. I take it to a friend's house, briefly consider opening and playing it, then come to my senses. eBay it is. 6 Hours of waiting in line at Wal-Mart. 325 bucks for the system. Getting 950 bucks for it on eBay: Priceless

Yeah I have a good E-Bay story too! I bought some computer parts for really cheap at an auction that the local school board was having and got basically a whole box of miscellaneous computer parts for 10 bucks. Turned out that there were three perfectly good, NEW and UNUSED, Cisco router/switches in the box. A quick google search showed them retailing for 400 a piece. Unloaded em all at E-Bay for around 500 bucks a piece. That so rocked....

Wow. Makes me want to get in on the whole Ebay thing. I have a membership, and I even bid on a couple of things but they went past my max I was willing to spend and I just haven't bothered with it since then.

I don't know, but I have a copy here. I also have all the old Working Designs Saturn titles, Radient Silvergun import, and the rest of the rare Sega titles from the end of the Saturn run. I should look into selling them...

Saga and Radiant Silvergun are top money-makers from the Saturn. Definately check in to selling them. I had a copy of RS when it came out, but quickly sold it at retail because it was too difficult for me to play  Why would someone spend that much Zeke? PR Saga was sold in limited numbers to begin with, and is widely considered to be a top-level RPG. I enjoyed it, and while Orta is a damn fine game, it's not an RPG.

A friend of mine, neophyte-ish, was too scared to buy a guitar he really wanted. He found it and had me bid. I ended up sniping it out from under another ebayer. Quite nerve-wracking. Also, I got an email saying how uncool I was for sniping it out from under him.
Boo hoo. That was fun!

Boo hoo. That was fun! I don't get people who get mad at "snipers." It's gotta be a psychological thing. Simply bid as much as you are willing to pay for it. If a "sniper" is willing to pay more, why do you deserve it more? If they beat you by 0.50, then, if you'd bid more, then you might have won. Boo-hoo, indeed.

I've only sold one thing on eBay... my 2003 MINI Cooper S. I got $18,500 for it, even though it had 18000 miles. The dude that bought it paid for transit and arranged pickup. I didn't do sh*t other than list it there. I'm too lazy to sell anything else on ebay.

I dont get it...are'nt PS2s like $150? new? Yeah, but right now, they're very difficult to find anywhwere, and people want them for christmas. I've seen PSTwo console-only going for $250 to $265. Some people have their buy-it-now set at $300+ for just the console. Mine was a bundle with 10 good games, 2 memory cards, etc.

De-lurking for my own Ebay story: Three years ago when I was living in suburban Chicago, a chain of used computer/software stores (Computer Exchange? I can't remember the name; if you live in Chicago, they have a half dozen or so locations across the area) kept putting out shrink-wrapped copies of the Wing Commander Kilrathi Saga on their shelves. Like every 2-3 weeks! I bought one for myself, and then after that it was like a personal ATM machine that pulled in anywhere from $96-190 depending on the auction. Managed to snag 5 copies--like I said, I ebayed 4. No you can't have the one I kept....

When I finally got around to getting a DVD player I sold off almost all of my VHS collection on E-Bay. some of the out of print stuff hit around $40. All told I made enough to pay for a week vacation in Mazatlan after about 2 months of selling.

It never ceases to amaze me what people will pay on ebay.... I have seen so many items that can be bought NEW for less than retail.
I guess they just assume that ebay means good deal....
It is fun selling tho' but really unless it was a killer deal, I wouldn't buy electronics as such... I figure I can get it new, on sale, cheaper with a warranty much easier.

Wing Commander Kilrathi Saga What made this so special? Was it an add-on for Wing Commander? :?: From what I know (and this is coming from a pure Wing Commander geek here), that the Kilrathi Saga was nothing more than the first three Wing Commander games, modified so they'd run natively under Windows 95 (and thus WinXP). These games (especially 2 and 3) are an utter bitch to get running under XP. And they're such great games, too. I still own the original box, manual, and schematic posters from the games. Might put them up on my walls one year to show my geekdom.

I sold Dark Age of Camelot currency over the course of a year on ebay. I made a bit over $100 from it. When I quit the game I sold my account for $400. Not to shabby I'd say!

Yep it amazes me too Jeff. I am teh product of three years of marriage I guess. I think more in terms of saving and the future than much else. It's so.... mature and stuff, it's really a stretch for me to be honest. We are moving to Baton Rouge next year in like March since my wife got a new job with the Department of Labor in Baton Rouge. The hour long commute is sucky so we are gonna sell our town home and buy a house and move. So, any money we get goes in the "Moving fund". I have been unable to convince my wife of the actual "need" part of having a nice, big, HDTV and how it would tie into our house purchase.

I doubt a printer and scanner would sell for much, but you can ship very cheap via Fedex Ground. I've shipped full tower PC's weighing 45+ lbs for $17, and that included $1000 in insurance. The box I shipped today was 10 lbs and cost $8 to ship, and that included $400 in insurance. Fedex Ground, in my experience, adds 1 to 2 days over regular fedex in delivery time. It's a pretty damn good deal, IMO.
