I'm going to have to disagree with that.  It's an awesome movie, but it's not the best superhero movie ever.

agreed.  saw it this afternoon and it was fun, but it didn't knock the Nolan Batman movies from their top spots.

Fwiw (I'm more exited most folks love it than the $ figures), looks like it might break the all-time opening weekend box office numbers. I'm doing my part to support it.

So so good, absolutely loved it.   Everything was well balanced and everyone seemed to get enough screen time, which just logistically can be tough (I'm thinking Star Trek movies as comparison).  I really enjoyed Mark Ruffalo as Hulk much more than I'd expected to, so that was a pleasant surprise.  Personally I was looking for a little more of the "Joss Whedon touch" but didn't really see much of it.  Maybe some of the scripting and comedy elements.  I'm not saying that as a negative, just a comment.

I'm not really familiar with Thanos, but I read up a little after the movie.  I wasn't sure but it sounded like they showed the Inifinity Gauntlet in Zeus' vault in Thor (?), so I could see that getting stolen to set up Avengers 2.

A helluva lot of entertainment from the trailers alone, 20 minutes worth  

the time spent on trailers was insane.  didn't have End of Watch but we had all the others plus The Dictator and Battleship.  it was the first time I saw the Prometheus trailer on the big screen and I found the background sound from it rather annoying.

I was amazed at how many people left the theater the moment the credits started rolling.  by the time the inter-credits scene hit the theater was almost empty.

For every 10 movies that don't have anything there's always one that makes it worth sticking around for 6 extra minutes.

Figures that I get stuck with a bratty five year old kid behind me kicking my seat and yelling.  He even went so far as to spray spit mimicking "Hulk's smash." 

That aside, I really did enjoy the movie.  Figures that there was a second scene after the credits that I missed too.  I thought the first end scene was it.

Yep, this. I think Coulson is probably still alive. They allude this his death being odd multiple times. First is when thin short haired agent woman says that those trading cards wasn't in his jacket.

Also, Coulson is in several other Marvel properties, including the newest Spiderman cartoon as the principal. He's a huge fan favorite too. We didn't see a body, or funeral.

And it's a comic book movie. No one stays dead in comic book movies.

the whole card thing was showing how far Fury was willing to go to get them back together and it was a lie he could get away with, but I doubt he'd lie about Coulson being dead because it'd tear the whole group apart.  as for him showing up elsewhere, the Marvel Cinematic Universe Continuity (MCUC) is separate from the comics (and probably the cartoons).  they are going to do MCUC comics though, but his first appearance was actually outside of the MCUC.

When Coulson is lying on the ground, dying, he even mentions to Fury that they needed something like this to draw them together.  Faking his own death was practically his own idea.  Besides he is a pretty likeable character and the most prominent character to appear in basically all the recent Marvel movies. He cant be dead.

Saw this earlier today and I'm already planning a second viewing. To me, it's right up there with The Dark Knight for best superhero movie ever. I was surprised at how well each character was used and that no one overshadowed anyone else.
