Nice to see them setup Avengers 2!

Also, I have to wonder if Loki going back to Asgard with Thor and the Tesseract will setup Thor 2 or play into Avengers 2 in any way.  I think Thor 2 is more likely.

Just saw it. Great. One of the first superhero movies to really get scale right, hulk was awesome, good teamwork, good humor mixed in.

I'm going to have to disagree with that.  It's an awesome movie, but it's not the best superhero movie ever.

loved the chemistry between the actors.

Here's a nice Q&A Avengers movie props vid with Marvel Studios Prez Kevin Feige:
http://geektyrant.com/news/2012/5/5/avengers-movie-prop-tour-with-kevin-feige.html

I'm gonna try to catch an ETX show later tomorrow morning, see how that compares with IMAX.  icon_cool

Fwiw (I'm more exited most folks love it than the $ figures), looks like it might break the all-time opening weekend box office numbers. I'm doing my part to support it.  icon_smile

So so good, absolutely loved it.   Everything was well balanced and everyone seemed to get enough screen time, which just logistically can be tough (I'm thinking Star Trek movies as comparison).  I really enjoyed Mark Ruffalo as Hulk much more than I'd expected to, so that was a pleasant surprise.  Personally I was looking for a little more of the "Joss Whedon touch" but didn't really see much of it.  Maybe some of the scripting and comedy elements.  I'm not saying that as a negative, just a comment.

Spoiler for Hiden:
I'm not really familiar with Thanos, but I read up a little after the movie.  I wasn't sure but it sounded like they showed the Inifinity Gauntlet in Zeus' vault in Thor (?), so I could see that getting stolen to set up Avengers 2.

Btw, even the trailers lineup was awesome:
The Amazing Spider-Man
Brave (Pixar's latest)
The Dark Knight
Frankenweenie (Disney animated b/w film by Tim Burton)
Prometheus
End of Watch (gritty handicam actioner about two LA officers who draw a Mexican cartel's ire)

A helluva lot of entertainment from the trailers alone, 20 minutes worth  icon_cool

the time spent on trailers was insane.  didn't have End of Watch but we had all the others plus The Dictator and Battleship.  it was the first time I saw the Prometheus trailer on the big screen and I found the background sound from it rather annoying.

I was amazed at how many people left the theater the moment the credits started rolling.  by the time the inter-credits scene hit the theater was almost empty.

Figures that I get stuck with a bratty five year old kid behind me kicking my seat and yelling.  He even went so far as to spray spit mimicking "Hulk's smash."  mad

That aside, I really did enjoy the movie.  Figures that there was a second scene after the credits that I missed too.  I thought the first end scene was it. frown

Also, Coulson is in several other Marvel properties, including the newest Spiderman cartoon as the principal. He's a huge fan favorite too. We didn't see a body, or funeral.

Spoiler for Hiden:
two things I can think of to explain this.  Either it's because he changed due to injury and was in less control, or (and in my opinion this is probably the more likely) it's in part due to the effect of Loki's staff.  Keep in mind that Loki wanted to be there to get the Hulk going, and right before the change he was getting angrier and even picked up the staff unknowingly.  They mention specifically it has gamma radiation and it's possible it was part of the problem.

The Coulson/Card thing

Spoiler for Hiden:
Yeah, we did see Coulson's body with Nick Fury standing over it when he died.  The cards thing was clearly a trick by Nick Fury, which the chick was calling him on and Fury reacts accordingly.  If Coulson is in Spiderman, it's before this happened.  If Coulson is magically alive, he is no longer purely human.

I think

Spoiler for Hiden:
the whole card thing was showing how far Fury was willing to go to get them back together and it was a lie he could get away with, but I doubt he'd lie about Coulson being dead because it'd tear the whole group apart.  as for him showing up elsewhere, the Marvel Cinematic Universe Continuity (MCUC) is separate from the comics (and probably the cartoons).  they are going to do MCUC comics though, but his first appearance was actually outside of the MCUC.

I'm going to have to disagree with that.  It's an awesome movie, but it's not the best superhero movie ever.

Also, there's absolutely no reason to see this in 3D.  It is a conversion, after all.

So what is your best superhero movie ever?

When Coulson is lying on the ground, dying, he even mentions to Fury that they needed something like this to draw them together.  Faking his own death was practically his own idea.  Besides he is a pretty likeable character and the most prominent character to appear in basically all the recent Marvel movies. He cant be dead.

Saw this earlier today and I'm already planning a second viewing. To me, it's right up there with The Dark Knight for best superhero movie ever. I was surprised at how well each character was used and that no one overshadowed anyone else.

Hulk definitely steals the scenes he's in, especially

I hope Joss Whedon can buy solid gold toilet seats off of this and someone at Fox gets fired tomorrow for canceling Firefly.

Whichever is the "best" superhero movie doesn't matter. We are consistently getting good to great superhero movies. Now all they have to do is let Whedon at a video game property.

Spoiler for Hiden:

Wrapped in spoilers because apparently a blurry split second gif qualifies  Roll Eyes

Sorry man but that should have been in spoilers in the first place, no question about it.
