Hey guys -

I am sure, somewhere out there in the world of the internet, exists a site that shows a person how much money the "average" person makes per year for the job they do.  Also, I am hoping it would figure into account where you live, if you wanted to compare your salary to the "average".

Does anyone know of any site(s) that supply this information?

Thanks in advance if you can post a link.

I know it seems a little obvious but try www.salary.com.  I don't know if it's pay or not but it seems like a nice well done site.

It does pay and is pretty specific. Although i think it reports on the higher end. My CEO once got annoyed that someone tried to use salary.com as a basis for a raise, so i wouldn't recommend using it for that.

If you're an American, and thinking about what type of career to pursue, then I strongly suggest a government job. Why? The reason is simple. Government jobs can't be outsourced.

OK that's just depressing.

According to those statistics I am woefully underpaid in my government position. I am paid only 65% of the median in my position, how crappy is that?

The salary.com is a cool site.  I wonder where their numbers come from.

DON'T use salary.com!!!!

They're numbers are piss-poor to say the least.

Basically all they do is take the salarys within one area (say southern california) and then try and adjust those salarys for everywhere else in the country based on cost of living, etc, etc. Which means that their salary amounts are very rarely accurate.

A much more reliable and accurate salary survey company is http://www.compdatajobs.com/

If they cover your state they would be able to give you real numbers for what a position should pay within your area.

I don't know... it seemed appropriate somehow. Tongue

Just as he wrestles with the demon of overcooked pasta, I face 10 headed hydra of searching that is Google(tm).
