I'm not really surprised since Lorne Michaels controls the show, but I am surprised in the sense that, at least based on the reaction to those rumors on the Conan website, it appears most fans don't like Fallon. Of course, it's not like there was any other obvious choice.

Jimmy Fallon? Really? What an odd choice.
Conan going to the Tonight Show makes sense, but it's going to be a bit strange at first, to me.

He was oright in SNL. Until he left and made horrid movies like 'Taxi'. I guess I too will be going to bed earlier once Conan takes over 'Tonight' Why not give to Carson Daly? He's been doing very decent for himself in his very late show there. He's actually funnier and personable than most people give him credit for.

His bit at the end of the head bobbing diet pepsi max(?) commercial amuses me, otherwise I can't stand him. I could be thinkign of the wrong guy, I don't know my SNL folks very well.

True, I haven't given him much of a chance. I think he came off as "Look at how hip and trendy I am" when I first saw him. It was enough to keep me from watching, but that was years ago and I know nothing of him. He might be an alright guy whereas Fallon is a proven jackass who is about as funny as Full House.

Yeah, I avoided Carson's show for a long time because I associated him with his past work on MTV and figured it'd be a waste of time. I eventually did watch it to catch some music guests and ended up really enjoying his work on the show. Very much in the same vein as early Conan O'Brien and he always seemed to do well with interviews as well. Jimmy Fallon? He must know things about Lorne Michaels that Lorne Michaels doesn't want the rest of us to know.

Conan O'Brien:
-Harvard Graduate and former editor of Harvard Lampoon -Won an emmy for his writing work on Saturday Night Live -Former writer for the Simpsons
Jimmy Fallon:
-Starred in Taxi with Queen Latifah
Any way you look at it, we lose....
He's like Mike Myers with a better chin and no sense of humor.

You would've gotten huge bonus points for doing it in the form of a Conan O'Brien SAT analogy: Conan O'Brien : Received an emmy for his writing work on Saturday Night Live :: Jimmy Fallon :

Yeah, Leno is (FINALLY) retiring, and Conan will be taking his slot. And moving to LA.

The weird thing is that despite the grey hair, Leno doesn't really look older than Conan these days. Conan seems to be aging quite quickly in the face and such the last couple years. Or maybe that's just me.

It will be interesting to see what Leno ends up doing. He's made it clear he will honor his agreement to "retire" and let Conan take over the Tonight Show, but he's also apparently hinted that he's not necessarily done with late night TV.

No, it's not just you. It's HDTV and it hasn't treated Conan well. Still, he's the funniest guy on TV.
