The Japanese are awesome...but so totally weird as well.
That said - that's really freakin' cool.

1st is that real tech?
2nd Why is Japan so ashamed of how they look? They never make anything that looks asian. It's always overblown western looks. So now a real asian can't be popular but a real asian hidden behind an anime look can become a star?

A lot of anime characters are designed to be racially androgynous so that people from disparate cultures can equally think "that looks like me!" and I think she fits the bill: Unless you have an abundance of teal-haired teal-bugeyed albino-skinned people in your neighborhood?

honestly, i'm not all that impressed by the 'hologram' as it's basically just a projection of a two-dimensional computer animated character onto a transparent screen. although it may appear somewhat three-dimensional in the video, the reality is that the image would look exactly the same no matter where you are in the audience...even those viewing from the back side of the stage would see exactly the same thing as those in front. you can clearly see lights from the projectors behind the character at quite a few points in the video, and the screen is clearly shown at the 2:41 mark in the video. it's interesting that a combination of their so-called 'hologram' and a synthesized voice are so successful, but i don't see the technology as being that big of a deal considering that we have seen something similar in use for HUDs for decades. just my opinion though...

I read the topic and thought it would be Rei Toei, the hologram pop star from William Gibson's The Bridge trilogy. He wrote those over 10 years ago. The world is catching up to his fiction again.

There is a hologram pop sensation in that game that your can speak to at various locations, and I think you have to escort at one point (the real star-not the hologram).

Should that make us feel better that our crappy pop stars are at least human?

Would someone help me stop watching these da^% videos? I'm now sure that the hologram is a actor/ress in a suit doing all the movements.
as for the voice...it's not total digital is it?..Isn't it a real voice just piped through the vocoder?

It is actually digital, based on a software called Vocaloid.
