Just prior to the crash, he posted pictures of himself on twitter drinking in a bar with some friends. The cops have confirmed that he was definitely speeding. If it turns out he was both inebriated AND speeding, I'm going to have a lot less sympathy for this person as another person died in the car with him, and he would have been endangering others on the road.

Too bad, I liked the guy but if he was intoxicated while driving then unfortunately he got what he deserved. Thankfully nobody outside of himself and his passenger were hurt.

While I also feel very strongly about driving while under the influence, I am a little less likely to consider death an appropriate penalty. Still, Dunn's actions have forever solidified his memory as being a complete "jackass." Something as simple as springing for a cab could have eliminated this completely. I doubt he is so financially strapped that finding alternate transportation was cost-prohibitive.

Sorry, perhaps I worded it wrong. I don't really mean that I'm glad that he died, I just get so frustrated when people continue to do something so stupid as driving intoxicated. I work in the ER and see innocent people get hurt and killed by people such as Mr. Dunn.

Understood. I had a hunch that you weren't celebrating his death. It really is a stupid thing and completely avoidable. While Dunn and Co. did a number of stupid things in the Jackass series, this trumps them all.

who would have thought that getting behind the wheel of a sports car while drunk and driving really fast on a winding road could get you killed... I'm very glad that nobody else was hurt. He was my favorite guy on the show, but I don't have much sympathy for people who dui.

Anyone read the comments from the bars manager? Dude is totally trying to cover himself.....Said something to the effect "He wasn't a hardcore drinker" and "He didn't appear to have been drunk while he was there".
Hmmm....ya right.
Drunk driving while i'm on the road with my wife and son which could potentially endanger us....no sympathy. Not celebrating his death, but doesn't bother me in the least.

I completely agree with the sentiment that getting wasted and driving is for morans. It's a bummer, though, as I thought Dunn was one of the most likable personalities on Jackass, Viva la Bam, etc.

Jackass guy dies doing something stupid-which literary device would that be? Irony? Poetic justice? Self-fulfilling prophecy?

Updated CNN news item: http://www.cnn.com/2011/SHOWBIZ/celebrity.news.gossip/06/22/ryan.dunn.drunk/index.html?hpt=hp_t2"The initial crash reconstruction investigation determined that Mr. Dunn's vehicle was traveling between 132-140 mph at the time of the collision," West Goshen Police Chief Michael Carroll said in a statement Wednesday.
Toxicology testing by the coroner indicated Dunn's blood alcohol concentration was 0.196%, which is more than twice the legal state limit of 0.08, Carroll said. Others have already mentioned the bar manager's comments but unless they find, well, shards of alcohol containers in the car wreckage/shreds, I don't quite see how he left the bar "not intoxicated" and then got that way in the 1 mile away where the crash occurred. So I could still see the bar being legally liable for continuing to serve someone they likely should have "shut the tab off" to. That said, I have friends who can drink seemingly 10 beers and never "seem" to be drunk, and others who get visibly tipsy after one or two drinks. Short of carrying one of these pocket-breathalyzer gizmos, better safe than sorry rather than relying on "how someone looks" to determine their drunkenness.

1. Everyone can be an irresponsible asshole sometimes.
2. Untimely death is tragic even when it happens to irresponsible assholes.
3. Points 1 and 2 do not diminish the fact that someone who is driving 120 at .2 is a huge irresponsible asshole.

No charges against the bar. Video footage shows him walking and talking normal when he leaves. Also, I'm curious if the bar is responsible when other people are buying the drinks and giving them to the drunk guy.
