So, on Saturday night, my wife and I decided to do this at the last minute...
It really was one of the best and worst things we have ever done...
Neither one of us is in the best shape, but we are not bed bound either (well, we weren't before this!)
This was after our 3rd day of comic con NYC, so we are already kind of tired and beat... We were on the platform for the ferry back to Jersey, with the ferry incoming, when a father and son came up and we saw the tshirt they had for the event.. Now I had already heard about it, but thought it had already been done the night before.. We started talking to them and they said it was a lot of fun, but pretty extreme... So, as the ferry approaches, I talk to my wife and we figure we would go take a look since it was only a few blocks from us. On the way, our full intent is to just join spectator mode... Unfortunately, spectator mode did not make it into this release version.. You had to be a survivor or zombie or not have anything to do with it.
There were people of all shapes and sizes, so that encouraged us, but I still wasn't sure.. So we decided to go see if we could even still get tickets..of course, I'm hoping not, so I have a legit excuse to back out... Unfortunately, they did have tickets..ok, but surely they were going to be tickets for the last waves, and our ferry might not be running then...another excuse! Nope, tickets were for the next wave in about 20 minutes...damn... Ok, we'll, bank account is a little low, so can't use debit, and CC I had on me was maxed I'm sure, but hey, let's try the CC, it probably won't work! Another excuse! And one I'm sure will actually happen! Unfortunately, the CC went through.... I see a pattern here.. Guess it was meant to be.... So, we actually had to do it!
Anyway, it was one of the best and worst decisions in my life... hella fun! But I am still paying the price (along with my wife) even tonight and probably for the next few days...
If anyone wants more details, I can post them..

OK, here are some more details..
1st off, the course was brutal for us... Someone in perfect health would have an easier time, but not by much... I'd actually like to see Olympic athletes try this...
This is like a haunted house on steroids...
You go through in groups of about 30-50.. Group size depended on how many people signed up for your wave. Waves were scheduled every 15 minutes or so.
Your group gets the normal warnings to not touch the actors and also a new one that you will all need to co-operate to survive.. This is pretty accurate, but as will happen if this really takes place, this was easier said then done. They estimate that the course should take about 30 minutes give or take... We definitely took longer.
The object is to make it through the course without being touched by a Zombie. Keep in mind this is an obstacle course and not just a regular run. Zombie on the course will have stuff on their hands that glows in a blacklight, this will be used at the end to see if you are infected or not. I couldn't confirm, but I suspect that not all the zombies have this...
Zombies are "mostly" the slow kind, but there were a couple of actors that did some fast moves, not that they even needed to do that...
Your group starts together in the evacuation zone. Your goal is to get through the course to the decontamination zone were it will be determined if you are infected or survived and can be evacuated.
Right at the start you can see how things would play out in real life... This is not a timed course or anything... but as soon as they said go, the mob took off running... if you were in the way, you went down... multiple people in my group went down.. some were pushed, some just fell while running... This was before we had seen even one zombie...My wife tripped within the 1st 2 minutes, so I had to run back and help her up, then about 2 minutes after that, I took a spill... Both of us had minor injuries only at this point.. knees, elbows, and hands... We kept going and I helped a few people up that had fallen... I did see other people doing this as well, but not too many... You could definitely feel an "every man for himself" vibe going on with a lot of people... and this wasn't just with the random strangers.. I saw a few groups that came together start to split up...
Now, let me pause a minute... We have done a TON of haunted house like things and I can't recall ever being scared (startled a few times though) and never getting a sense of realism... For whatever reason, the first few minutes felt real somehow.. not sure why, but this was definitely an interesting experience... It may be the running part and the part about actively trying to avoid zombies at some point..
Back to the course..(BTW, not sure if I will remember every detail)..
Pics in spoiler for size..
Front of pass
Spoiler for Hiden:

Spoiler for Hiden:
We start by the red S and follow the course down to the end of the dock, then back towards the front. We then cut across the dock and run up stairs to get onto the flight deck, go to the back, then the front, then back down the stairs, then to decon by the round circle.
In a somewhat remembered order, here are the obstacles..
First part of run is pretty clear, then about 50 feet on, you start to see zombies.. not too many at first though and are pretty easily avoided, but this is also at the point where people start panicking and the falls start. We start seeing minor obstacles that you can go around like barricades and such. Most of the zombies weren't actively going after people, they were just close to the barricades you had to get buy and were waving their arms about and such.
Here's a good video I found..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuPkY8FCD1I
You'll see in the video the at around 6 mins there is a bunch of scaffolding you had to climb. I took my fall right before this, so when we got to the top, my wife and I took a breather.. It was a safe zone at the top... We were both banged up at this point.. Also, there is a bus in the video, however when we got to this, it was filled with about 7-8 zombies right in the middle aisle.. so we got out and found a way to squeeze through the front of the bus on the outside. There were also a lot of bottlenecks.. some were by design and allowed you to catch your breath and others were caused by people just bunching up trying to get by a particular zombie group. At around 7:45 there is a path with bars across.. this is the back end of the dock where you start to make the u turn. this is where we pretty much gave up and it wasn't even the halfway point... We still kept going and trying to avoid zombies, but not as actively since by this point we had been touched by so many zombies and were beat to hell, we figured we were dead anyway.. (and felt like it).. I started going from survival mode to fun mode and started messing with the zombies and distracting them so that other people could get by (ZombieBait!) I would jump in front of zombies and yell at them, make fun of zombies and joke around...
We then had to cut across and walk up the stairs to the flight deck with zombies on the stairs as well.. after we got on the flight deck we headed towards the back and there was another safe area with Dasani vending machines, so we got some water (So yes, if the zombie apocalypse happens, you can still use vending machines...).. there were some more zombies on the deck as we made our we to the front and what do we see? another safe zone, but this one has free bottled water! Argh.. they should have had this on the other end..
We then make our way back to the stairs, but luck is with us! Some zombies are getting off the elevator, so we wait for them to get off and take the elevator down.. When we get down, someone calls us cheaters, but there are no rules in the Zombie Apocalypse! This is now at the end and we go through decon where they wave the black lights over us .. I am up 1st and I'm told to go left, my wife is told to go right... Well, it looks like left is the bad ending as I am sat down in an exam chair and a doctor looks me over and pronounces me infected.. She then proceeds to get a prop gun and put it to my head (which leaves a red mark on my forehead).. and I am dead.. frown
the End...
I would definitely recommend this to everyone and we will go again next year, but we are still paying for it.. between the falls and the exercise, we are both still in pain all over (we would make good Zombies right now)
I also realize that in a real zombie apocalypse, I need to make sure I have lots of ammo, because with all the running, we'd be screwed.. smile

Yeah.. frown But not my wife!
I wonder if it is just random at the end or is it a case where only certain zombies had the stuff to mark you... I am thinking random, because otherwise, there should have been a huge line at the bad ending.. smile

just remember:  in the zombie apocalypse you don't have to run faster than the zombies, you just have to run faster than the living biggrin

It REALLY was... Just be expected to pay for it afterwards... as I mentioned, we are both pretty sore, have several bruises, cuts, and scrapes as well....plus I was shot in the head at the end...
It would be cool if they were able to add an element of gunplay at some point... something were a few random people get nerf guns with limited ammo to help clear some of the very infested areas.
But this is definitely something to try if it's in your area... I would hope that these things may start to become more common...
