I have a binder compiled with all of my preparation for the interview, a favorite pen for the 20-minute impromptu essay, So, someone let you know about the impromptu essay eh.....cheeky basstrud. Actually, the "Application Interview Instructions" document forwarded to all candidates mentions the essay, but no information is available about what the essay may be about. Guess that ensures it being "impromptu." The only advice I've been able to find is to organize my thoughts, present my ideas in a clear, concise, and formatted manner (introduction, key points, conclusion), and maintain quality penmanship. Students have actually been denied admission solely for poor handwriting. Leaving the post-interview reception early also results in automatic denial. Perhaps "happy hour only goes until 6pm" is a poor reason to do so. Have you considered bribery?

After checking my application status page incessantly since my interview on January 20th, final word was just received moments ago: Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that you have been admitted to the College of Pharmacy's Pharm.D. program at the University of Arizona. Holy. Shit.

My wife doesn't know yet. She's been on a business trip to the DC area and is currently on a flight back to Phoenix. She lands at 7:15pm and I'm picking her up while wearing a new UofA t-shirt. We'll see if she notices before I'm forced to say something. Then we're meeting friends for dinner, who will probably notice the giant "A" on my chest as well. Drinks with dinner will probably change from beer to champagne.

Thanks so much for all of the well wishes. It is a wonderful thing to be able to share such an accomplishment with friends. It has taken a great deal of hard work to get to this point and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't proud of my accomplishment. So thanks for all of the support. Good luck with the move. I don't recall any Cracker Barrels between Phoenix and Tuscon.
I wrote about my Cracker Barrel aversion back in 2005. I can't believe you still remember that. But unfortunately there is a Cracker Barrel right around the halfway point between Phoenix and Tucson. Granted, I still have four more years of education, but just getting to this point was no small feat.

Congratulations. I admire you for the courage to basically reboot yourself and going back to school. I'm preparing to do the same, and if things don't get better for me by next year, I'll take the full plunge. Again, congratulations! The hard part is ahead of your, though!

And so it has begun. Pharmacy orientation began last week and involved a full week of 7am to 7pm sessions for five straight days, all conducted in professional attire, and all with minimal breaks with events even extending through lunch. It was an eye-opener, but quite exciting. This week was the first "official" week of classes, and the teaching style is like trying to drink from a fire hose. And to make matters worse, we have an 8-class schedule. Most students take an average of four to five classes, so 8 is no small feat. Each class elects a class representative to act as student advocate for their entire class of 100, to function as liaison between faculty and students, to organize all events and document upcoming responsibilities such as exams, training sessions, quizzes, etc, to represent the class at all academic functions within the College, and as part of the position the class representative sits on the College of Pharmacy Student Council as well. And you guessed it. Yours truly was elected to represent the entire class of 2016. The Dean of Students is not entirely keen on having a class rep rocking the mohawk, but my professionalism, knowledge, and communication skills have so far overshadowed any hang-ups faculty might have with my appearance. I'm here to leave an impression, and so far earning the position of class rep is quite a start. Now back to the books.
