Ok so as you are busy doing nothing Death rides up on a pale horse. He tells ya it's time and you must choose which world ender to survive. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't so you might as well try to enjoy it. Your immediate family will survive with you. He tells you your choices...........
1. Zombie apocalypse - It's started. Things still work for the most part. Hot water, power, un-spoiled food in stores. But it won't last. There's not many zombies now but they are growing in number. You know that little place you've passed many times and thought to yourself "hmmm that would be a good place in case of zombies" ? Well it's time. Besides..you know you want to bash in skulls and blow off faces. To the gun rack!
2. Medical meltdown - Something got out...a bug/virus. Man made or natural. Most people are toast in a few weeks. There's no zombies that crave your flesh but there's also no one that knows how to run the power plant or heal boo boo's. It's a lot like zombies..just wimpier. Zombie phobes will go this route. Hey maybe someone survived somewhere else.
3. World goes BOOM - Space rock or NUKE...Earth is dust. Most lands are unable to support anything. There's a lot of people left..some of them mutants! It appears you may be able to reinvent old west tech. then again it will probably be worse. Low food, lots of people, mutants...it's time to start that gang you've always wanted. Subjugate the neighbors. Start a harem. Might makes right. Get out there and rule Mad Max style.
4. ALIENS! - Run for the hills! Little green men have arrived in force. Everything is working but the aliens are taking over and they aren't nice either. Start a resistance perhaps. Obtain high tech alien toys. But you are still way over matched. it's bleak out there. No immune system rebel is going to save your ass this time. Can you live like rats and come out on top? Hey maybe they want you for breeding.

I went the Fallout way. I've played enough Fallout to enjoy it some. Guns, gangs, caravans.

Since I'm surviving, I go with medical disaster. Not much threat of getting it in a nasty way later.

If I were surviving on my own I'd go with Zombies. Since I have to deal with taking care of family I'll say medical meltdown.

Yes, but you're writing about English Zombies. What if these zombies are metric? Boy, won't you feel stupid then.

Don't think I'd want aliens or nukes. Maybe the virus if I'm immune, otherwise no to that. I might be OK with zombies, if they are the standard slow moving kind. Hmm...I'll vote zombie.

Yes, but you're writing about English Zombies. What if these zombies are metric? Boy, won't you feel stupid then. what if they're Engrish Zombies? My wife is Japanese. Got it covered. And as far as metric zombies are concerned? I am an equal opportunity kind of guy. A zombie killing weapon works just as well no matter the measurement.

I would prefer a super bug. Surviving from day-to-day is going to be hard enough with the world falling to shit, I don't need to be doing it in a world full of monsters whose sole purpose in life is to eat my flesh. Also, assuming I'm immune that means there will be at least some percentage of the population left as well.

Just like in my thread, I always go with the aliens. It's much more exciting to me. Plus there's always the chance that we can beat them with some hot air balloons and red dust. Or Will Smith.

Hmmm...
Zombies
Upside - Probably easiest to survive (so long as there's not fast zombies), get to bash the boss in the head with a shovel. Downside - High probability of having to kill loved family members, gruesome death. Verdict: One Thumb Up
Medical
Upside - None unless you're immune Downside - No fighting, no real defense. Just wait to die. Verdict: Two Thumbs Down
Nukes
Upside - Predictable, possibly survivable. Perhaps the one scenario where you could actually improve your standard of living Downside - Ever see or read The Road? Starvation sucks. So does radiation poisoning. Verdict: One Thumb Down
Aliens
Upside - Common enemy, home turf, ability to fight. Being vaporized doesn't hurt. Downside - Aliens can just nuke it from orbit to be sure. Facehuggers don't look fun. Verdict: Two Thumbs Up (as long as there's no facehuggers)
