Because its posted under "News Media Links Shooting To Games", it was linked to an MSNBC article titled "School shooter followed video game-like ‘script'’", and someone wrote a FAQ for it...
Like they say, explaining a joke wont make people think its funny, it just means they didnt get it.

"It's so wrong, it's funny" I'd revise it: "It's so wrong."

It's not hilarious, but it certainly makes a valid point. (re: the video games-violence link). Activist groups always use tragedies like this to make their point, so I see little reason slashdot can't do the same thing.

I vote funny as well.
ATB hates all un-pc comedy. After I read the contents of the link, I thought to myself "I bet ATB posts something about how wrong and unfunny it is". Sure enough..

I found it funny But then... I'm sick... Likewise. Sick minds think alike. (and ATB is a fundamentalist Christian. Enuff said.)

Well, I live in the state this happened in. Brand new news is that the tribal chairman's son has been arrested in connection to the shooting. No charges have been filed, but word is some juveniles may have known about what the boy planned before it went down.

I think the idea is kind of clever, but the actual post wasn't terribly funny.
Also, the ATB-bashing is, as usual, uncalled for. You guys sure like to make sweeping generalizations about someone you don't know at all.

ATB hates all un-pc comedy. Nope. But comedy about murdered children I do hate. Got any jokes about heart broken parents weeping over the broken shot up bodies of their kids? How about jokes about Jessica Lunsford?

As a satirical piece pointing out society's obtuse tendency to place the blame for this type of murder rampage on the video game industry, I find it well done.

So what exactly could have been improved in it?
It seems just like a hastily written FAQ covering the essentials of passing a level, with more to be filled in later. In that sense, it seems to have grasped the 'flavor' of that aspect.
Second, it took relevant information from the case and tied it into the 'walkthru'.
Im just curious how it is lacking in the 'execution'; it seems (to me) to do what it was supposed to do. I guess Im just lost on what could have been done better.

When I say the "execution is sub-par" I mean the concept is funnier than the actual content. IMO, gallows or dark humor is hard to pull off. So if you're going to make jokes at the expense of a horrific tragedy, it may help to not do it half-assed. A gamefaq about a school shooting that may or may not be blamed in video games is ripe with potential. Were you laughing at the stuff in the actual "faq", or were you laughing at the fact that someone tried to make a faq about it? I could try to make a "better" one to illustrate my point.

Well I think having actual levity in the faq would kind of undo what it's goal was, which was to mimic an actual faq. So I dont really see all that much potential for humorous content, IMO. Making it funny would be making it un-faq-like.
Personally the content is adequate to convey the true funniness, which is the concept itself. The absurdity is the joke, not the content.
[edit] but i did at least get a laugh out of Terri's blog, so maybe my humor is just whack. Sure its not high humor, but that isnt exactly what either was going for.

I was presenting the Terri Schiavo blog as that kind of humor done right.
I could go off on a crazy rant on the levels of satire the blog hits and how the faq could hit those same levels but I'd probably just come off as a pretentious asshole. Suffice to say, all I see in the faq is wasted potential.

That "faq" reads almost exactly like one for [game name here]'s gamefaq.com, faq would sound. That seems to be the goal. Not sure how it could have been much better. Besides, it is a quick, clever read. I don't think it was built up to be mind blowing.

I thought it was kinda dumb, personally. It's in bad taste, but it didn't offend me personally...I just thought it was more juvenile than funny.
