Nothing like laying down on the snow and ice at 6F and a windchill of -4F trying to deliver a baby goat.
Lost both the baby and the mother. icon_cry

Woke up to around zero F and a wind chill of about -600 t0 -700. When I was out back I yelled to my wife to bring me some warm water but the words froze and I had to bring them into the house so they could thaw out so she could she could hear what I said.

I'm sorry to hear about the goats.     Is this cold a record for Hogeye?    You guys were the coldest in the state this morning.

Once it reaches a certain temperature it gets cold enough you can't tell if it gets colder anymore except by thermometer. I learned that in northern Maine.
Every year just about it'll get in the single digits and occasionally to the minus regions.
I was so sad about the goat. I had to do a C section on her after she died as I thought there might be a second kid in there. There wasn't. That's a procedure I never want to do again. Used an Xacto knife. Yuch!

I got a text from a friend that lives near Jacksonville, Florida the other day, and she said that it had snowed there. Absolutely insane.

That said, it did snow once during the 15 or so years I lived in Florida (near Tampa Bay). Talk about an epic event as far as rarity goes.

I remember going to Australia and was there long enough to experience their Winter(if thats what you want to call it). Anyway it snowed one day. I have never seen adults running around and acting like little kids to such and extent before. For some it was the first snow they had seen in their lives. They were waking me up saying come on its snowing come see!!!! Um yeah, I left Canada in Janauary and have lived there most of my life.............If there is one thing I know its Snow..Very funny though. Needless to say it was all gone within a couple of hours.

The cold just won't let go this year. Today was the coldest measured day in Trondheim in 52 years at -24.3 degrees C (0.7 degrees above the coldest recorded temperature here ever). Combined with temporarily increased costs for electrical power these last few days (by a factor of about 10!), these should be a couple of expensive months.

electrical power costs has shot up incredibly over the past few weeks... And everyone is grabbing the cheapest power available right now, so its good being in that business right now. I wonder if its the lack of thawing that does this?

Anyways - extremely cold here in Denmark as well, -19 degrees celcius inland the other day, which is a new record for us.

Glad it's cold somewhere, as Salt Lake has had the most mild winter I can ever remember.  I've had to shovel my driveway a grand total of 3 times all year, and it's been over 2 months since we've had more than a trace of snow.  Completely the opposite from last year, where we got snow for nearly 2 weeks straight.

Well, it's cold here, but that also means there's no new snow as well. Once you get past a certain temperature, the skies clear and snow stops falling. The result is that all the roads and sidewalks are covered with steel ice that makes people slip and fall.

We normally see at least a few days of below zero temperatures here in the winter, but this year our lowest low was four degrees. Granted, it was exceedingly windy and the windchill was something like -10, but that's still not too bad compared to some past winters.

I remember they closed schools once because they didn't want kids waiting outside for the buses. I believe it was -20, with a windchill of -35 or so. That kind of stuff is just flat out dangerous to be out in if you aren't sufficiently bundled up and prepared.
