I just cancelled Netflix and have 3 movies to watch before I return them...Riddick which I've seen, Indy 4, and Master & Commander. I do plan to watch them all but is Indy fun at all? All I remember is bad reviews. All I want is some fun. I don't want it to ruin the memories of the first 3.

I thought it was OK. Not nearly as good as the first three, but it still has its moments.

I enjoyed it. I couldnt get over how old Harrison Ford looked at the beginning of the movie but eventually I got used to it.

+800 -1000 It was easily the worst movie I've seen in the theaters in years. It has almost no redeeming qualities and will just sour you on the rest of the Indiana Jones movies.

It's nowhere near as good as temple of doom. But it's still Indy so it's not completely horrible. Plus I learned that refrigerators work better than fallout shelters.

Never understood the hate for the movie. Besides having Shia, who is irritating, I found it an enjoyable popcorn movie. No more or less believable than the other three.

hmm,i don't even think that was the main problem, sure the indy films have far fetched stuff in it...i think the worse part of the movie was Shia swinging from the vines Tarzan style there was also the ending as said i think its watchable, but i wouldn't give it more than a 7

The way I watched was thinking about, "This is the kind of movie I would have made if I were a 10-year-old." When you take off the adult glasses, it's quite enjoyable.

If you can leave your brain in the next county (instead of just at the door), you may enjoy Indy 4. Personally, I think it's like the Star Wars Christmas Special - it's a horror that while is out there, they don't want to admit it actually exists. Okay, maybe it's not that bad, but...it's by far the worst movie out of the series. I know - go watch it via Rifftrax. Maybe then it'll be worth seeing.

I thought it was decent. Really the part I expected to hate (Indy and his son) I ended up really enjoying. The only part I didn't like was the ending. I put it about on part with Doom which I never warmed to.

There is one perfect moment in that film and its after the big ending. The opening is also kinda fun and I didn't mind the refrigerator (though there were myriad ways that that scene could have worked out better).
The rest of the film is just terrible terrible. Like Raz said, the monekys are one of the lowest moments in cinematic history.
Skip it!

Stay away.
It's a movie that starts out fair and a bit goofy. But about 1/2 way through the film it starts getting bad and keeps getting worse and worse. By the end you're ready to blow your goddamn head off.

As a standalone movie, it's really not bad. As Indiana Jones canon, it's pretty ridiculous. I don't regret seeing it, but it definitely frustrated me considering The Last Crusade has been one of my favourite films since I was, like, nine, and I watch it at least once a year.
The biggest issue I don't think was the 50s setting, Shia, or the sci-fi plot. It was that the trials the characters endured were so bloody unbelievable--for an Indy film! The original trilogy, while outright fantasy, always felt grounded in the real world. Up until the usually supernatural climax, Indy was a fallible hero in outlandish yet imaginable circumstances. In The Cystal Skull, the most ridiculous events occur that the characters should have no reasonable chance of surviving unscathed. Yet they do... over and over and over again. (Excepting the bad guys, of course, who are conveniently whittled down.)

there was also the ending So the religious endings of #1 and #3 are better? Yes. It's kind of the same thing that people really like Uncharted, ? A part of it, no matter how small it is, was based in reality whether it is a legend or something. They throw out names that you know/knew/heard of/make any sort of connection with. I'm sure Stargate will get thrown as a rebuttal but I find it inherently different than Indiana Jones. Guess I should spoiler it since the Op hasn't seen it.

there was also the ending So the religious endings of #1 and #3 are better? Yes. Totally, because they're 'believable' in the world of Indy. 4...is not. At all. Same with some of the stuff that Indy survives through in 4 - the older films are just within the realm of plausibility. 4...is also not. It's just outright stupid. Same with some of the stupid ass stuff that's shown in the film... Indy 4 is an abomination and should be shot. Same with the Star Wars prequels. They have no reason to exist, they do nothing for the characters, and they only show that Lucas needs to stop making movies. And possibly Spielburg as well. Period.

I think the worst part was how forgettable the whole film was for me. It gave me the same feeling that Phantom Menace did.

Because as I said - in Indy's universe, religious items that do these kinds of things exist. To suddenly turn it upon its head like Indy 4 does breaks that aspect of it.

Indiana Jones is an achaeologist. He searches for historical artifacts and enjoys hunting for artifacts based upon popular legends and that have some historical significance. The Holy Grail and The Ark of the Covenant are based upon historical legends and have at least some basis in archaeology. Edit: Sorry, missed the spoiler. The conclusion in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crap does not. That I believe is the main discrepancy in the series irritating fans.

I think the biggest problem with the movie is it quickly became an internet meme for forumites to compete with each other over who can come up with the most creative way of saying how absolutely horrid it was... when it really wasn't that horrid. Was it a great flick? Absolutely not. Was it watchable? Yes. And no the jungle scene isn't anywhere near as bad as people make out. It certainly isn't the highlight, but to call it one of the worst pieces of cinema ever is absurd hyperbole. I'd say watch it, without great expectations and a healthy suspension of disbelief. You'll probably enjoy it, but you won't get blown away. Of course, if you're given to drama, then you might be better off leaving it so you can avoid telling everyone how it raped your childhood memories
