Just curious..I was on it a few minutes ago, and navigated over to CNN to check on the latest world happenings. When I tried to reurn to OO, I got a popup saying that "http://www.octopusoverlords.com could not be found".

God this bites. Anyone know what's going on over there? I wouldn't be so grouchy about it normally, but I've been sick for the last 4 days and now I have a fever and I feel too crappy to game (but don't mention anything like that over on Qt3 or some of them will call you an attention whore and rip you a new one--on the eve of Christmas Eve, even, but I digress). Anyway, here's some good stuff-- the Chronicles of Narnia Rap from the the most recent ep of SNL: http://www.youtube.com/watch.php?v=zLElfJ9YCh0

How come no one from OO has come in to give us some info? Excellent question... :? Because we don't know anything. Rip's been notified via e-mail, but we haven't heard anything from him. Could be his whole server's down, could be he's out of town for Christmas and doesn't know there's a problem. Sorry I don't have more news... but I would count on it being Monday or Tuesday before the site is up or we know anything more. Merry Christmas though.

I wonder if OO is using the same hosting company as me....My site has been down since yesterday. Contacted support and they said they had a hard drive crash. Is it possible to have 2 hard drive crashes within 6 months?? I'm moving my hosting right now...just crappy service ever since they got bought out by some Canadian company (not that there anything wrong with being Canadian! )

Is it possible to have 2 hard drive crashes within 6 months?? Yes, but it's kind of strange how a business doesnt PLAN for a hard drive failure. Servers typically use hardware RAID, so if a drive goes out, you just put in a new one, and it rebuilds the RAID setup. You can do something as basic as mirroring, which is just what it sounds like- two hard drives, and they are exact mirrors of each other. Best is RAID 5 or higher, which takes 3 or more drives and sets redundant information on the array of disks, so it can tolerate a loss of one (or more, if you go higher than raid 5) drive. I generally don't consider a computer to be a 'server' unless it has raid 5 or higher. Now that expanded storage hardware like SAN, NAS, etc are getting cheaper and better, that view might be up for a slight revision, but the basic idea remains the same.
