Is Gamingtrend dying, or we are all just on a break?

This place used to be packed, tons of new posts all the time.
But it seems as weeks turned to months, there's less and less new posts. We could have almost a whole page on the forum of topics just from that day, now you can scroll down and see from over a week ago.
Where's everyone gone?

Edit: I should have said, are the gamingtrend's forums dying..

I have never been able to figure out the strangeness with our forums.  Check this out:



We are absolutely growing in traffic, but there are less posts than normal.  We have a lot of lurking going on.  I have a few contests that should bring some folks out of the woodwork.   That said, I'm more than willing to listen to ideas to improve.

I have a tendancy of posting in streaks myself.I come here many times a day but don't post.Then all of a sudden a wild hair hits me and I'm off.
It's the same with the other site.
Of course I've also bought 5 new games in the last two weeks too......... :shock:

Yea, I know that there are a lot of people playing Oblivion and GRAW right now.  Major releases tend to put a dip in traffic.  You'd figure it be the opposite, but nope.

I dunno.  I check things using "View posts since last visit" and, since I went to bed at 2:00 a.m., there have been 20 new posts.  That's busier than I would expect late at night on a weekend.

Quarter to Three forums (which I expect are a bit busier on average) only shows 23 new posts during that same time.

I've been a lurker for a while.  This board is by far the friendliest, most helpfull gaming board i've been too.  I've picked up many a game just based on reviews/recommendations from the folks here, as I trust them far more than other sites.  Im certainly going to post more, and since I have this nifty Xbox 360 and a PC maybe try and hook up with a few of ya online.   This place feels like home

1 - Interactive warning beatdown webcam?
2 - Earn credit towards a hooker in Vegas with each post you make?
3 - Punch and pie?

I'm a lurker who rarely posts.. I just enjoy reading what others post.

I've been a bit busier than usual(no, not with Oblivion ) this week.  I also tend to post in other people's threads, not start my own.

I don't think anything is being done wrong here, it's just that we have a mellow, mostly anti-conflict/soap opera/drama queen vibe going.   Sometimes it means things are gonna be a bit quiet, that's the price we pay for civility.

It's alot easier to get a lurker to jump in and say "Bush sucks!" or "Liberals suck!", than it is to get a lurker to jump in and post a quality "Sunday skin" contribution, or post some thoughts on Dr Who(offtopic forum is what I'm addressing).

Personally, I think the lower number of posts means a few things.

1) We have more quality posts
2) Less drama
3) You don't have as many garbage topics to get through

I think we need a gimmick.  Maybe a forum mascot or something.  Perhaps then we will attract more attention.  I mean OO has those nasty tentacled things, BC has super cows... Maybe we need the Drama Queen Eliminator.  It could be our mascot and we could all bow down to the ELIMINATOR.

KD has done an amazing job of immediately weeding out trouble posters (except that KOTOR giving away Starshifter ).

I'd rather it be quiet than SHAQ-FU'd with unnecessary crying, counter crying, accusations that one type of crying is okay while the other isn't, follow-ups that indeed the new type of crying comparing crying is not acceptible and then finally a crier not related at all to the problem being banned.

Until the new Doctor Who thread caused an unnatural spike in my post count, I was pretty content as a lurker. Honestly, though, I'm not fond of forums where the majority of topics turn to debate. There is something to be said for staying on topic, even when we're discussing something here in Off-Topic land.

Forum traffic is steady, maybe on a slight uptick and front page traffic is steadily climbing.

Need to promote the forums more if people are visiting the front page. Either that or entice some of the old missing people to start posting more. I've found myself coming here less and less lately from lack of new topics.
