It worries me too, as it has the potential to turn north like Hanna when it approaches the east coast. Speaking of Hanna, the little bitch should be visiting me Friday night! We're scrambling right now at work to make sure our disaster recovery plan is in place. Even though she's projected to be a fairly weak storm, I consider it good practice for the beast hot on her trail.

"fairly weak storm"? It's projected to be a hurricane! I was just looking at the prog charts on the NOAA ADDS site, there is a weak high pressure system that's coming down from the northeast pretty quickly as the remnants of Gustav are pushed up towards the great lakes. With a bit of luck, it may keep Ike off-shore. Though with Hanna and Ike being so close together, they may just gobble up the high. Ike is nasty, I hope it goes away.

Just had our latest DR meeting. Planning out the different scenarios. Our main HQ gets destroyed and local offices ok. Main HQ and local office destroyed, deployment of staff to out of State offices, etc etc.
Spending the rest of the day identifying critical items for packing and shipping out of the state if the need arises.

Come to Texas. Our rapidly cycling winds are on a much smaller scale, although the amount of warning you get is a lot less as well.

Jag, like you, I'm watching this one VERY closely. Let's keep hope alive ... maybe Ike will find some mercy and turn north. I've heard rumor that there is a large high pressure system dropping down that could turn him back out to the Atlantic. We should know a lot more by Saturday. Be safe! Fellow: I say the same thing every hurricane season!

looks like Hanna is winning the race! She had a big head start. Jag, don't get too excited yet. Ike could just be toying with us. What I've heard most recently is that Ike is supposed to dip into Cat 2 status, then re-strengthen to a 3 or possibly 4. The path keeps shifting south, which kind of bothers me, as it means that it's looking like it won't curl north into the Atlantic like I'd hoped.

If you want to be free of hurricanes come up here to Vancouver or anywhere on the Pacific NW coast. We only get strong winds of 100 mph+ once every 30 years. Of course when they do hit there's usually no warning and man do 200 ft Firs and Cedars go down spectacularly in them! I think the cleanup from the Nov. 2006 storm was just finally completed this spring. Take care Jag, Jeff, YellowKing and Xmann. Make sure you get out in time and don't get blown with a controller in your hand...no wait...don't get caught with your pants...no wait...don't be sitting around playing games when the storm hits.

We're going through the hurricane drill here at work, but it's more as an excuse to practice it than it is serious concern that we'll incur any damage. It just sucks the thing is going to hit on the weekend. The minimum I expect from a hurricane is at least one free day off of work.

While not as bad as some of you others, I am in Tallahassee and there is still alot of water around from Faye. If Ike comes and dumps another 20 inches of rain it is going to be extremely nasty in this area with the flooding issues.

Ugh, I'm really not looking forward to this one. The current models have it dipping to the south a bit. However that's not as comforting as I'd like. The nasty part of the storm is the North Eastern quadrant, which would put it squarely over my house. I live about 30 miles SW of Jag. Luckily the wife was on vacation this week so she was able to head out this morning and pick up supplies. Good thing too because people are running around like crazed weasels right now. I wanted to pick up another 10 gallons of fuel for our generator but the lines were foolish.
Hopefully everything will be back to normal by the time Rock Band 2 and NHL09 are released.

Wow, that's a favorable shift to the South. I'm still well into the cone of death. So I'm still going to hunker down. If that's indeed the path Ike takes Jag and I will still see some really ugly weather. Especially if it's a Cat 3 or 4.
However, Ike looks like it'll be a Gulf coast event. Katrina did the same thing. She hit Miami as a Cat 1/2 then did her thing in New Orleans. I'll take that as a sign that God thinks the Saints suck.

Some of the models put it on a direct path to NO, even more than that projected path map does.

Good Grief! I didn't even look at this post at first... I hope everything is okay with everyone! Confession: the reason I didn't look past the title was because I thought CeeKay was talking about Ike Van der Graaf, or however he spells it. Sorry... but the combo struck me as possibly NSFW - not that I actually work anymore, but still...

Well, Hanna is currently moving across us. Woke up to howling winds. Every time we go through one of these tropical storms/weak hurricanes I'm reminded that even 60mph sustained winds are no joke. It's kind of spooky to look outside and see absolutely no rain, just this aggressive, persistent wind lashing at the trees. The sky this morning was a dirty dull orange. Made for a really eerie atmosphere.
At any rate, initial estimates from just looking out the window is that we're in good shape. Other than a little bit of yard debris, Hanna didn't stir up much trouble. Seems like we may wind up dodging two bullets this year, with Hanna weakening to a tropical storm and Ike taking a more southerly route. Good luck to those in Ike's path!
