Finally read the gobble gobble thread and I think the issues are

1. No one responded in the thread.  It's frustrating when a thread one starts is a dud. Happens to everyone. Nothing personal. Especially on weekends.
2. Bitterness at no responses vented in a pretty jerky way.  I'm all up in these threads and I'm definitely not a part of any clique, though I do get why this place (all forums) at times feels cliquish.
3. On GT you make your presence known as much or as little as you want. I've had feuds on here that made me want to walk away forever.  But this really is the best forum on the net.
4. Sense of entitlement for having been around a long time. Sorry if you're feelings were hurt, but don't be petty. This is the best forum on the net (though it TOTALLY could use some more traffic and new blood) and it gives and takes away to all members regardless of seniority...

If you try looking at things from a different perspective you may see that the majority of replies you got in the gobble, gobble thread were made in jest.  I dont think anyone meant to hammer you, they, myself included, were just having a bit of fun with your reaction.  Unfortunately, humor of that nature, especially on the internet, does not always play well.

For my part, my Dad and his wife were in town for the weekend, so I didn't have much time, but I did see the Gobble, Gobble post and figured it was about the upcoming American Thanksgiving.  This made it not at all time sensitive to me, so I didn't go in.  If I had early on, I might have joined the America vs Canada pile-on as well, though.

But here's the thing: that stuff is less about making fun of Canada and more about making fun of what brash jackasses Americans can be.

I have never in my life posted in these forums in a heated state due to events in the real world.  I have never let my need to prove myself right (or just prove TiLT wrong) get the better of me while posting.  I have never, ever once in my life exaggerated to make a point.  Most importantly, I've never let anything bother me.

You know, I don't know why I'm bothering to write anything anyway.  No one reads my posts.  I'm writing in a void.

Maybe it's an issue of perspective. I always considered this place less like a community and more as a support group. Or a dysfunctional Thanksgiving dinner(in Canada?).

That kind of makes you my crazy uncle  Ralph who gets drunk and pissed off, storms out and drives off blaring the horn. We know we'll see him for Xmas and everyone will act like it never happened.

I think there is a bit of a disconnect from the vastly larger front page to the community.  I'm in negotiations to swap out this dilapidated forum software for one that is more stable and breaks the walls between them.  It helps fix the 'small community' thing, it helps new readers join our community, and it helps those of you who never venture to the front page suddenly have a new place to interact.   I'm sorry if you are struggling to find a connection here and I'd hate to lose you.   If you can, could you stick it out until we are done with our great rebuild experiment?  I'm hoping that all of the work we've put in over the last six months will help repair some of the stuff you are feeling.   If you find that you can't stick around as much, then we'll just be happy when you do visit.  When you are here, you are family.  smile

I want to apologize to anyone who puts in the time and money to keep this site running, I meant NO disrespect or slur on the excellent work you do here with the whole site.

I know my post was a slice of over-reacting pie. But if you think about it, its a compliment to you guys. The fact that I "care" means I esteem most of you highly. Or else there wouldn't be an issue on my part.

I think the world of this site, for the quality of work, and the super-abundant knowledge of our hobby shown here.

Hey Arc sorry I missed your Gobble, Gobble post. I got buried under a marathon weekend of tabletop gaming that started Friday and didn't let up until Sunday evening.  Not to mention the Secret World has grabbed me where it counts -OUCH- and has consumed far too much of my time.  slywink  Anyhow, a belated and warm Thanksgiving greetings from another of your Canuckistan brethren.

Hope you continue hanging here, as I think this site needs all the members it has and you're a good contributor. Besides you need to at least stay until The Elder Scrolls Online is out.

Good to see you here still, Arclight.

I've been thinking about this a lot and I think its the other sub-boards fault. I mean, I used to just browse the games subforums here and I was the nicest possible person. Then, I looked into Off-Topic, then those other little boards called, and soon I was browsing P&R as well! Thats when the horrible slide began - I began to have harsher discussions, more violent outburts, defended my beliefs more harshly, started getting into shouting matches, fights, dramas, I left a few times, I made some people leave and even had a few close calls doing stuff that wasn't strictly allowed. And my forum postings weren't much better.
