I have not had good sleep for many weeks due to various stress points and this morning my wife thought someone was in the house- thusly I've been up since 4:30 after a weekend that saw me get 4 hrs of sleep per night (not because of fun stuff, mostly just poor sleep) and I was exhausted come 7:15 this morning.

So I took a Vivarin and I feel...I dunno. Alive.  Everything is clear. I'm excited about stuff. Not jittery. I just have clarity that I don't seem to usually have.

Question: How do I feel like this all the time.  Even when I do get good sleep I don't feel like this- there's just some kind of bouyancy I can't explain.

Is this why people drink coffee? Do drugs? Seek adrenaline? But my assumption is that like anything,if I started dosing vivarin on a regular basis I'd soon become immune to its effects...which would suck.

dude, dont do drugs....

But yeah, although I dont know what this particular drug is, I assume that its the exact same reason people do drugs - you feel different, since it releases certain chemicals in your brain. Only thing is, its not natural, so you'll probably experience some sideeffects eventually.

Yes.  Vivarin is just a 200mg tablet of caffeine - the equivalent of 2 shots of espresso, but without the pleasant ritual and taste of good coffee.

Take more.  Eventually one won't give you the same feeling, but in that case, just take another.

Actually I use a caffeine/yohimbe/guarana pill in the mornings occasionally (2-3x a week) called "Spike Extreme Energy" that does wonders for my morning workouts if I'm feeling a bit tired.  It's a stop-gap solution though.  I've found the best method of maintaining high energy and focus levels is to get around 9 hours of sleep a night.  This is of course difficult to do with any regularity.

Be careful with some of the brands.  If I recall, some of them contain Tylenol in addition to the caffeine, which has lead to toxicity when people pop NSAIDs with caffeine pills. Always read your labels.

+1

However, currently I drink a few cups of coffee every morning, because I enjoy the ritual and taste of good coffee, but also because I appreciate the little caffeine jump-start (comperable to enjoying the taste and ritual of good booze, wine, or beer, and appreciating the little buzz that comes along with it as well).  When I was in college I didn't drink much coffee, and so my body wasn't as accustomed to large levels of caffeine.  All Vivarin did was make me jittery and hyper, and while my body was wide awake, practically bouncing off the walls, without any ability to sit still for more than a few seconds at a time, my mind was like mud (it was late at night, studying for an exam, needed a few more hours of focus).  I hated the feeling and would never take it again.

If you weren't sleeping before ... you likely just gave up all hope. I'd quit the Vivarin asap.

Hey man, you just have to get high... on life.

A couple of cups of coffee in the morning always helps me get a good start to the day.

Keep in mind that caffeine is indeed a drug and that includes withdrawals if you stop use after a couple-few days.

When one Vivarin starts to lose it's kick, drop your next pill into a can of Jolt or Redbull and enjoy.

I've never had redbull. The price turns me off.

I would have thought it would be the urine taste that did it.   puke

I've never had one either.  I already drink too much coffee as it is.
