Here is a little test to find out -

http://labs.jphantom.com/wpm/

My first two attempts are attached.  Anyone beat that?

(If it errors out, just refresh till it works.  Lots of folks hitting this on Digg it seems)

Oddly enough I was just thinking about finding something like this the other day.  I don't think I've tested my WPM since back in the days of taking "keyboarding" class in jr high.

I'll have to wait a day or two since it just won't pull up and I'm impatient.

I seem to average in the 105-110 range.  That makes me chuckle when I think of those job ads I see for a typist/secretary that require 40 WPM.

Hooray, we all qualify to be administrative assistants!  smile

97 with 2 errors

I am going faster as i warm up.  If you just sit down cold and do it, it is much harder....atleast for me.

I have the potential to get close to 90 or 100wpm, but I've always had too many typos to get there.

I fly on a word processor with spell check, though!

[edit] I just had what was, for me, a small amount of typos (like 4-5)... got 65 wpm.

This reminds me of someone I used to work with: she was a secretary from back in the days before computers, when there were huge secretarial pools filled with typists.  She said she always got a kick out of seeing us tech guys typing really fast- back then, guys really didn't type (or just did the hunt-and-peck method).

[edit2] Blah, 7 mistakes, 66 wpm.

[edit3] W00t!!  4 mistakes, 80 wpm.  I'm happy with that, time to get some work done.

There are actually a few games out now which teach typing.  Probably far more fun than how I learned.

First try:  128.03 with 1 mistake
Second try:  137.97 with 1 mistake
Third try:  131.13 with 1 mistake
Fourth try:  132.2 with 2 mistakes
Fifth try:  137.09 with 1 mistake
Sixth try:  132.12 with 1 mistake
Seventh try:  138.76 with 1 mistake
Eighth try:  131.83 with 4 mistakes (this was while at the same time having a conversation with an engineer about freezeless hose bibs)
Ninth try:  130.37 with 2 mistakes
Tenth try:  132.41 with 3 mistakes

Best:  138.76 with 1 mistake
Worst:  128.03 with 1 mistake
Average:  133.191 with 1.7 mistakes

I figured ten tries would provide me with a pretty representative idea of how fast I type.

eek  I knew that I could type relatively quickly, but I had no idea I could type that quickly.   icon_cool

Nice copy/paste there. slywink

I can't get better than 95wpm and usually have 2-4 mistakes. There's too much crap on the right side of the keyboard. I'll never type conceived again.

Wait....damn
