If you were born in 1880 or after, and five or more people of your gender received your name, the totals will be included in the National Data ZIP file from the Social Security Administration.

In my year of birth, there were 2,022 male (and 11 female) children given the name of Wayne.

Oh, and in 2017, you will being to see the 146 girls named Khaleesi last year entering the school system.

Only 21 will be named Daenerys, the same number named: Aaleigha, Aerabella, Charm, Elivia, Giabella, Karrigan, Koraline, Legend, Syncere, Wilma, and many others.

What's the deal with Jacob being number 1 since 1999? I had no idea. Some reason for it becoming popular all of a sudden?

In my year, there were 5,873 boys names recorded and mine was #32.  Of the 1,559,084 boys in the record that year, 0.638% have my name.  For comparison, 4.35% have the most popular name.

In 1977, 12,007 males were named Justin.

My wife and I did a much better job of picking rare names for our daughters.

2007, only 176 girls were named Annaliese
2009, only 30 girls were named Liesl

There was this little thing called Twilight that kept it pretty popular.

22,867 other male Scotts in 1972

And 95 females.

Only ~1400 Elises in 2005 so my daughter is fairly unique.

And her name is pretty uncommon, too.   BOOM

There were 28,038 male Kenneths in 1957, 81 female Kenneths, and 28 Kennethas.

Kenneth was the 13th most popular male name, which is an interesting bit of trivia to add to the other 13s in my life (born on the 13th, married on the 13th at age 26, or 13*2).

4482 males named Shane in my year of birth, 82 females (and a surprising number of similar female names like Shanee, Shanel, Shanequa, etc).

It was the 65th most popular name when I was born, but thankfully has been falling steadily and is down at 248 now.  The peak of popularity was 1973 when it was the 54th most popular male baby name.

Perhaps, but Twilight didn't come out until 2005 so something else must have started it (thank god).

You could say that, but lok for Edward. I looked at the top 100 for 2012 and didnt see it. So unless I am blind, I guess Jacob won? If you really lok Edward doesnt show up rarely ever.

My name, Paul, was the 34th most popular in 79
My wife was the 55 in 81
my first son Alexander was 4th in 2009 which was dissapointing becaus ewe didnt think anyone was using that name
Then the aforementioned Edward for my second boy, I dont see anywhere on the 2012 list.
