So, thanks to the wonders of /., I've found the world's most expensive Ethernet cable.

Wanna guess how much it is?

$500.

Yes, you read that right.

Read the reviews if you're absolutely bored. They're quite funny. biggrin

So...who could possibly be stupid enough to purchase such a thing? Other than the people that don't go to Monoprice to purchase their HDMI cables, anyway.

See, without this you're totally fucked.  You might as well string two tin cans together.

Those who buy the most expensive electronics of the moment need the most expensive cables of the moment. Oh sure, cheap cables carry the signals, but do they conduct the awesomeness?

PeteRock will explain this.

With a price like that you'd think it was made by Bose in conjunction with Monster Cable.

Iím willing to pay extra for quality cables.

Notice how in this post the letters lack definition and there are spelling errorrs?  Thatís because Iím just using the standard budget cable included with my PC.

In this post however, everything is much crisper and interesting, because of the lack of jitters and distortion when posting with a $500 cable.  You may not notice the difference however if youíre using standard cables which degrade the signal.

We paid $1500 a pop to lay 200 feet of shielded Cat 5 cable about ten years ago.  The cable itself was the same as everything else but the plastic or whatever wire is encased is designed to reduce interference from external heat, magnetic, and elelctronic sources or some such thing.  That and we were paying them to run the cable maybe fifty feet off the floor.

The cost was crazy talk IMO but when we shopped around the cost was pretty standard.

We ran 8 cables.  And then they never actually jacked any of the eight CNCs into the network.   mad

The official product page has some additional technical details not metnioned in the Amazon page:

Quote
Denon's 1.5 meter (59 in.) ultra premium Denon Link cable was designed for the audio enthusiast.  Made from high purity copper wire and high performance connection parts, the AK-DL1 will bring out all the nuances in digital audio reproduction from any of our Denon DVD players with the Denon Link feature.  Attention to detail when building this cable was used by employing high quality insulation, tin-bearing alloy shielding and woven jacketing to reduce vibration and to add durability.  Additionally, signal directional markings are provided for optimum signal transfer.  Rounded plug levers help prevent breakage.

I've tried drawing arrows on my ethernet cables myself to help the signals know the proper direction, but it was only a moderate increase in signal transfer compared to these professionally installed arrows.

My poor-man's patch cable also vibrates all to hell when I download something big.  If only I had woven jacketing.

Like anything, you get what you pay for.

Measures 1.5 meters long (59 inches)

that's about 5 feet a piece.

200/5x500= $20,000

20000*8= $160,000

you were undercharged.  the bill for the remainder will be sent shortly.

I tried to redeem that friggin' thing but when I walked into the joint I was greeted by Ironrod wearing a badly fastened toga and carrying a bottle of Jergens....
