My hopes started fading the minute Bryan Singer left the project and they were completely shattered when Brett Ratner signed on.  I'd love to be proven wrong though.

I'm not really hyped for X3 and those pictures haven't changed my mind any.  What's with the goth look for the Brotherhood?  From looking at the second pic, they look like a Vampire LARP group.

I believe the 'vampire' people are the morlocs.

How they can go into that storyline with such a crappy actress playing Storm, AND do the Dark Phoenix storyline, is beyond me.

I hope they arent straying too far from canon.  Sticking with the story is, IMO, what made all the recent comic or book movies so good.

I held out hope until I saw the trailer.

The trailer (no offense to those of you that thought it looked ok) was fucking awful.

The way the music was timed with them walking, the shots, some of the makeup jobs, it all stinks of Rattner and I just can't imagine the movie being worth viewing anymore.

I'll probably still see it with some small amount of hope, but I'm totally prepared to leave the theater feeling ripped off and ashamed that I paid for a ticket.

There was also this collection of the theatrical teaser posters over on Aint It Cool, that have been lovingly dubbed the "rent" collage:

I just wanted to say that I'm guessing the above picture of Colossus is likely - likely - stand in armor, for long shots and place holder cuts. I would suspect that they'd replace it with CGI for the close shots.

I thought the trailer had entertaining moments. I am wary of all of these pictures.

Spoiler for Hiden:
That noticeably reduces the amount of eye candy in the film.

Oh c'mon.  There's not much sexier than Kelsey Grammer as a tarted up blue Furry.

Although I already knew about it, did we really need th'Fool's spoiler in here?  Even if we think the movie will be crap its not really fair to anyone who might actually be looking forward to it.

I thought Morlocs were mutants who were driven underground because their aberrations were so apparent that they couldn't pass for humans.

Wait, maybe that was Futurama....

IMO they're making the same mistake the Fantastic 4 movie did with The Thing. The both need to be CGI characters.

I'm with th'FOOL ... I saw that crazy firy phoenix shape underneath the water in X2 and was like, "Fucking Dark Phoenix!!! X3 FTW Roxorz!! I love you, Brian Singer."

Things didn't seem to work out that way.

wow that stinks.  i really enjoyed the last two.  I had high hopes for 3, as my favorite part of the X men Story was the Pheonix Saga stuff.  Oh well.  Even the GF liked the movies.  With the addition of the 'gothloc' or whatever they are.  I am sure she wont find the 'comdey' in her fantasy amusing.

People just love to pickon X3. We bemoan the fact that Singer isn't doing the 3rd. Yet if you look at the trailers for Superman and X3, X3 looks far far far better.

Personally, I think the new Superman film looks amazingly good.

The trailer for Superman was one of the most emotionally powerful trailers I've seen in a long time.

But you have an affection for the Donner version that far exceeds that of most people.  The audio and visual queues lifted wholesale from the 1978 film played into that.

I liked the trailer for Superman.  It just didn't have the emotional resonance for me that it did for you.  And I'm guessing it didn't for most people.  Honestly, I'm apprehensive for both films.  Neither is feeding into my inner geek.  Which is sad.  However, I remain hopeful about Singer's film.  Ratner's just looks worse and worse the more I hear about it.

It has become apparent to me that the superhero wave in Hollywood has crested.  There might be good movies to come, but their numbers will be dilluted with blatant money grubbing throw-away films, as the projects are given to people who don't give a damn about the source material.

Goodness I hope that is just a sour Sunday mood talking.  Someone get in this thread and prove me wrong, please.

After seeing the trailer, my girlfriend and I looked at each other and started chuckling.  It wasn't a good thing.  slywink  I still hope the movie turns out well, though; with Singer at the helm there's definitely potential there.

I really like Fireball1244's enthusiasm for the Superman franchise: he clearly knows the subject inside and out, and makes a specific and well-reasoned case for what worked or didn't work about the films.  Although I won't be buying the boxed set, I'll be looking forward to reading his critique of the "Donner Cut" of Superman II when it's released.

It's similar to Starshifter's enthusiasm for Emergency! -- I'm not familiar with the show myself, but knowing how much he loves it gives all of his posts a little more personality.
