Sin City trailer here. This flick just leaped to the top of my Must See list for 2005. I have no idea how the movie itself will play, but seeing the assembled cast and the visual style has me drooling. biggrin

Yeah, it's the movie that made Robert Rodriguez leave the DGA (Director's Guild Association) in order to have Frank Miller as the co-director (he is the creator of Sin City and not a DGA member).  It's both a blessing and a curse for Rodriguez.  It's a blessing in that the movie will probably be very true to the source material since Miller is also co-helming it, it's a curse because it is unlikely (but not out of possibility) he will ever be able to work on a studio backed movie again because he is no longer part of the union.

RR made mega profit from his movies.  That alone will mean studios (or at least investors) will work with him again.  Will it be difficult?  Sure, but they are paying the lawyers already, may as well have them actually do something.

I recommend reading his book Rebel Without a Crew.  Amazingly enlightening, and he really goes off on a rant vs. the way Hollywood wastes money.  His experiences with union workers there is very negative as well, since they are essentially telling the studios how they have to make their films.

Quentin Tarantino and George Lucas are not part of the DGA. Nothing really wrong with that. All three basically have a bigger part in the success or failure of a project since the studios will have little to no say in their movies.

I hate the way that Apple now requires you to download iTunes to get Quicktime.  I don't want iTunes on my tablet.

The quicktime version has a low framerate and it's choppy. Terrible to watch.

The other one stops about halfway through every single time, and then again at about 3/4.

Unfortunately I can't find a way to watch the trailer that doesn't suck. I want a high quality version, but there just doesn't seem to be one.

that's garbage.  why should you be forced to download something different from what you want?  it would be like ms requiring you to download msn messenger because you wanted to get directx 9

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Apple only require iTunes in order to watch the full-screen QT trailers?

Use QuickTime Alternative.  No QT required.  I just downloaded the trailer linked to above and it works just fine.

Jessica Alba looks fantastic.  I didn't know anything about this movie until my bro just made me watch it.  Looks great...

If you are all still having QT problems here is a link to a WMP file:

The new trailer on apple.com is much nicer than all the ones previously posted.

Higher framerate and all.

Not requires, just pushes.   There is a Standalone Installer available that doesn't look like it includes the iTunes stuff.

Sweet trailer!  It looks like it's going to stay pretty true to the comic which is good.  I can't wait!

The only way they could release a good version is if they converted to WMV.  QT is the shit, and not in a good way.

Agreed.  I'm surprised at how well QT scales up.  WMV is nice and compact, but it comes at a price, such as the fact it looks like garbage at anything higher than the encoded rate.  The artifacts are horrendous.

I used to hate QT but that has nothing to do with the format and everything to do with the QuickTime Movie Viewer.  With QuickTime Alternative I can run mov files seemlessly along with all my other video formats in Media Player Classic.  Yippe!
