Actually it wasn't *made* for Sci-Fi.  I think it was originally intended for theatrical release, then it sucked so bad they were thinking straight-to-DVD but finally ended up on Sci-Fi instead.  So that's probably even worse.

Here you go: Highlander: The Search for Vengeance.

It's non-canonical, but still not too bad of a film.  Not super-great, but pretty enjoyable as an action-based anime.

OK, I survived.  The ending was a 'wtf? they must have run out of money' deal and didn't they learn not to do 'world gone to hell' after Highlander 2?  definitely not as bad as repeated kicks to the balls but still not really worth the time.

yeah, the director decided to revise the movie later on, especially the Zeist crap.  You left out the next line in that paragraph:

One of Mulcahy's most dynamic alterations was the relabeling of the Zeist footage as a flashback to an ancient, technologically-advanced civilization on Earth, much more in line with the later continuity of the first film and the later TV series

and from the Highlander II entry:

In 1995, Mulcahy made a director’s cut version known as Highlander II: The Renegade Version. The film was reconstructed largely from scratch, with certain scenes removed and others added back in, and the entire sequence of events changed. All references to the Immortals being aliens from another planet were eliminated; instead, this cut reveals that the Immortals are from an unspecified, distant past on Earth, banished by priests into random locations in the future to keep the Prize from being won in their lifetime (the option to return to the past is an option offered in addition to the mystical Prize and mortality of the first film). I actually watched the Renegade Version a few years ago.  Even the re-editting could not wash the suck from the film.

I still think what *I* had thought the film was about, before seeing it, would have made a far more interesting film: The Highlander was the leader (spiritual or whatever) of our world, but we encounter another world in the future in which the "bad guy" won on their planet.

I actually had this recorded, and every time I thought about watching it... I just remembered what everyone in this thread said about it.  So I just deleted it: I've watched enough terrible Highlander movies to not feel the need to add to the list.

It's really sad, because IMO the series was the best thing to happen to Highlander since, well, the first movie.  It's kind of an amazing study in how Hollywood (and elsewhere) can really screw up a great idea.  Aside from the first movie and many of the episodes (not all, that's for sure), the series has really been run into the ground by some horrible writing.

The previous movie with Adrian Paul was quite craptacular as well.

It's kind of a shame, because I went in to that one with some good expectations.

I always get pissed at how Donnie Yen gets pwned in every Hollywood film he's in.  He was in Blade 2, he gets pwned like a chump.  He was in Highlander, he gets pwned like a chump.  WTF?  Didn't they see any of the Chinese films he was in?  The guy is f'ing incredible.
