Actually it wasn't *made* for Sci-Fi. I think it was originally intended for theatrical release, then it sucked so bad they were thinking straight-to-DVD but finally ended up on Sci-Fi instead. So that's probably even worse.

they did an anime? interesting. Here you go: Highlander: The Search for Vengeance. It's non-canonical, but still not too bad of a film. Not super-great, but pretty enjoyable as an action-based anime. [edit] BTW, I wonder what the real Clan MacLeod thinks about the Highlander films? That would be a pretty funny interview.

On right after Bloodrayne! Magic eightball sez: high potential to be a veritable double feature of waterboarding = YES
I'll still give Highlander a try though. Kinda liked some of the teevee show years back - the mostly Euro feel/settings made it different enough

Good god, that was baaaad. Wish I'd have forgotten to watch it. From the Planets aligning (wtf- all about the size of dinner plates in the sky?) to the craptastic bombastic (Queen reject?) music to the dumbass-overacting-ancient-badguy-yet-spouting-ultra-modern-slang to the entire WTF?! premise, this thing was just nasty. Save yourself, delete what you've DVRd & let's all never speak of this again.

Highlander has a long tradition of shitty movies to uphold.
I'm pretty disappointed, though. Did they mention Zeist or whatever the fuck it was?

OK, I survived. The ending was a 'wtf? they must have run out of money' deal and didn't they learn not to do 'world gone to hell' after Highlander 2? definitely not as bad as repeated kicks to the balls but still not really worth the time.

no. I believe they've officially declared that Highlander 2 never really happened. It was all a bad dream.

no. I believe they've officially declared that Highlander 2 never really happened. It was all a bad dream. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highlander_%28franchise%29This film offers an alternative origin for the Immortals, who are depicted as aliens exiled to Earth from Zeist. In direct contradiction with the original film, Ramirez and MacLeod were friends before their exile from Zeist. In the original, they first met in Scotland in 1541, with no mention of Zeist whatsoever. This was a primary reason the movie immediately met with harsh criticism from critics and audiences alike.
Russell Mulcahy was disappointed with the movie as originally released, and later made his own "Renegade Version" director's cut with a proper sequencing of various scenes, and the filmmakers' explanation for why the movie turned out as it originally did.

Russell Mulcahy was disappointed with the movie as originally released, and later made his own "Renegade Version" director's cut with a proper sequencing of various scenes, and the filmmakers' explanation for why the movie turned out as it originally did. yeah, the director decided to revise the movie later on, especially the Zeist crap. You left out the next line in that paragraph: One of Mulcahy's most dynamic alterations was the relabeling of the Zeist footage as a flashback to an ancient, technologically-advanced civilization on Earth, much more in line with the later continuity of the first film and the later TV series and from the Highlander II entry: In 1995, Mulcahy made a director’s cut version known as Highlander II: The Renegade Version. The film was reconstructed largely from scratch, with certain scenes removed and others added back in, and the entire sequence of events changed. All references to the Immortals being aliens from another planet were eliminated; instead, this cut reveals that the Immortals are from an unspecified, distant past on Earth, banished by priests into random locations in the future to keep the Prize from being won in their lifetime (the option to return to the past is an option offered in addition to the mystical Prize and mortality of the first film). This version is generally considered a major improvement on the theatrical release, and obtained a far more favourable reception. Nevertheless, the events of both versions were generally ignored by the subsequent films and series.

I actually watched the Renegade Version a few years ago. Even the re-editting could not wash the suck from the film.
I still think what *I* had thought the film was about, before seeing it, would have made a far more interesting film: The Highlander was the leader (spiritual or whatever) of our world, but we encounter another world in the future in which the "bad guy" won on their planet.

Ok, finally got around to watching this... and I really wish I hadn't. I am a huge fan of the TV series, and well this basically ruined it all. Oh well, at least I can go back and watch the series on DVD to get the taste of this out of my mouth.

I did'nt get around to watching it before the DVR died and had to be replaced. Come to think of it this movie might have had something to do with that from the sound of it.

I actually had this recorded, and every time I thought about watching it... I just remembered what everyone in this thread said about it. So I just deleted it: I've watched enough terrible Highlander movies to not feel the need to add to the list.
It's really sad, because IMO the series was the best thing to happen to Highlander since, well, the first movie. It's kind of an amazing study in how Hollywood (and elsewhere) can really screw up a great idea. Aside from the first movie and many of the episodes (not all, that's for sure), the series has really been run into the ground by some horrible writing.

The writing was horrible, just really bad dialoge and a story that was impossible to follow which made little to no sense, and the fight scenes were really bad. The filmography (if that is a word) was very bad as well.

It was completely and utterly awful. It wasn't "this is so bad you have to see it" awful, either.
Skipping this movie is the right choice.

I always get pissed at how Donnie Yen gets pwned in every Hollywood film he's in. He was in Blade 2, he gets pwned like a chump. He was in Highlander, he gets pwned like a chump. WTF? Didn't they see any of the Chinese films he was in? The guy is f'ing incredible.
