The first one was okay, it wasn't something I can really point out that made me not like it as much.  I think it was just the poor pacing, things weren't happening with a deliberate pacing.  It's like how the first Harry Potter movie is okay and all, but you can tell the second is a whole lot better because the new director and editor really knows how to handle shots and pacing better.

I agree. I loved ideas and elements of the first one and entire sections of it but the whole... not so much. It was the pacing which, as noted, was far too deliberate because the director is so in love with Hellboy that he took his sweet time. That works for lengthy, elegant pieces like LOTR but Hellboy? Give me fast, furious, and hilarious action kthx bye.

it's the exact same director this time around (del toro).  maybe there's a different editor but like Chris Columbus he's directed the first 2 films.

The trailer narrative was terribly cliche but the film itself looked fantastic.

My main problem with the first Hellboy is that the third act was so damn rushed. Everything else was just fine... I like the slow pacing. I wish they hadn't sped up to speedracer-fast pacing for the last 20 minutes.

Good trailer. Thanks, Mitch!

Let's not forget fighting the same damn monster 30 times.  While I'm fine with fighting the same monster, but each encounter was basically the same, and the gimmick got kind of old.

As for this one, well a Chinese white elf is strange enough.  It also looks like there's more direct fighting with Hellboy.  What I'm wondering is, where's Hellboy's partner from the first movie?  That nerdy guy with "a pure heart" or whatever?

Heh, you beat me to it. icon_biggrin I actually enjoyed Hellboy a fair bit despite its weaknesses, and hope that the second is at least as good, but hopefully better!

Now if they would add Vern Troyer as Mini HB it would rock.

I <3 all things Hellboy.

BTW, Ron Perlman is now officially the official Hellboy.  He does the voiceovers for the cartoons and games and everything.
