We have been losing a lot of great people before they even hit 80. I know many had illnesses, but man.

Aw man, what a bummer.  icon_frown  He was in and/or helped create some of my favorite comedies.

And so we lose our first Ghostbuster (and co-writer of the same). Really sucks, that is in my top 5 favorite movies of all time. Big loss for Hollywood - I got the impression that he was beloved by many.

Animal House and Caddyshack will always be his greatest works in my book.  They completely defined an entire era of comedy.  Such a comic genius.  And oddly, one of the few that weren't troubled individuals.  By all accounts, he was a down to earth family man who was respected by everyone he worked with.  Many of the great ones work from a place of pain.

Don't forget Stripes and Groundhog Day.  With guys like Bill Murry and Dan Aykroyd  getting the most attention as comedic stars for their time he was the unsung genius behind so many classic comedies. Will be missed.  icon_frown

While great films, I think Animal House and Caddyshack were the truly groundbreaking films in comedy.  They set the tone for a whole generation of raunchy...but smart...comedies.

This hit me like a ton of bricks.  From SCTV to, hell, everything.  Unfortunately, many will see him as just a utility player, but it wouldn't take much digging to discover what an impact he had on the world of comedy.

I'll just put this here.  I think Ramis would appreciate it.

Geebus.  Not expecting this at all.

So much for that Ghostbusters sequel.   frown

His sense of humor dovetailed pretty well with my own. I admire most of his work from SCTV onward. One obit said that Groundhog Day is often held up in screenwriting classes as an example of a perfect screenplay.
