There is a family in my hometown who have just lost (7/15) literally everything they own, as well as two of their five children. The father and one of the remaining 3 kids were flown to the burn unit in Salt Lake City and are, thankfully, recovering there. The mother and other children were treated locally and, I believe, have been released.
From what I can gather, the fire was spread by a freak windstorm from a BBQ grill to the house. It sounds like the entire thing went completely up in flames in a matter of minutes, and the father and mother were injured attempting to rescue the kids who were killed, very seriously in the father's case. The fire also claimed both of their vehicles as it spread to the grass, etc around it. They now have literally no material possessions, no place to live, and and I imagine medical bills that will be extremely high.
I've met the guy several times - he plays in my brother's band - and they are just super nice people who live for their kids. I can't imagine what they are going through, and it breaks my heart every time I think about it.
The one thing I can do is reach out and spread this link where people who are able to help out can donate to help them start to rebuild their lives.
Thanks to anyone who can give a couple bucks, or just can send their good thoughts out through the airways.http://www.gofundme.com/bmvyfg
