This is my first 4th in a state that allows fireworks...methinks the fire department will get no rest tonight.

Here in Arizona, it's so dry that one misplaced firework burns half the state down. Count yourself lucky.

The 4th is a funny time in my state.  Fireworks are illegal so everybody drives over the border to South Carolina.  Over the border there are huge signs for fireworks and giant outlets along every exit.  A lot of people will literally fill their car with fireworks and bring them back.

The police don't seem too terribly concerned about it.  There are enough problems with drunk drivers.  Plus, people seem to set them all off in a giant orgy of smoke and sound, so there isn't much left by the time authorities arrive.

We have some sanctioned fireworks displays going on.  I might drive up to the parking lot of the high school and watch them fire them off.  

It's been raining off and on all day so fire shouldn't be that big a concern.  It's usually drunk people that forget to let go once they light the roman candles and end up losing fingers or a hand.
