Our Walmart is now selling Halloween lights. I kid you not. The way holidays are going I expect the 4th of July to have lights and begin in March.

I HATE the way this country is ruining all the holidays I enjoyed as a kid. For F's sake start X-mas stuff after Thanksgiving!

Solution: I only watch TV containing commercials when I watch football, and I almost never venture into an actual physical store anymore. The restult is that I also almost never see holiday anything anymore except when I want to.

It's definitely helped ease the annoyance that normally comes with the winter shopping season.

I think he is just annoyed that they now have strings of lights for Halloween,
whereas before they really only had strings of lights for Christmas.

He's shopping at Wal-Mart. That's enough to put anyone on edge.

Halloween lights are nothing new; they’ve been sold around here for a few years.  I kind of like them, purple lights are much easier on the eyes than rapidly blinking multicolored lights.

You have to string lights? I didn't get that memo. What are the Halloween ones, orange and black?

You've never seen Halloween Lights before? I've seen those things sold for YEARS at my local grocery chain. Where have you been?

Now, seeing Christmas stuff at the end of September, that's annoying as all get out.

Some folks around here decorate their houses for Halloween but I've never noticed lights before. They go in for tombstones, ghosts, spiderwebs, etc. I'll admit that I don't pay much attention to holiday decorations.

As far as Christmas goes, blame the shoppers. They started buying decorations from my store in August.

We put up Halloween lights every year, and have been for the last 7 years. We have a crepe myrtle tree in the front yard that looks really good with some orange lights on it, and we also string pumpkin lights on the porch. This year I bought some purple lights as well.

I do it for the kids. We get a lot of trick or treaters, and the kids love seeing a yard all lit up and decorated. This year I'm making a cemetery scene with graveyard and ghosts.

I don't think it ruins the holiday - quite the contrary. It makes it even better. Halloween is being ruined by stuffed shirts that think every house holds a child molester so kids need to go trick or treat at the mall or inside a church. I feel like by going all out with decorations I'm doing my part to keep the traditional trick or treat tradition alive. Parents know when they see my house that I still believe in the old ways, and that by God if a kid knocks on the door they're going to get the full Halloween experience.

Also, I buy good candy. No Mary Janes, no cheap-ass 50 pound bargain packs. I buy Snickers, Kit-Kats, etc. Some of my best memories from childhood are of dressing up and going trick or treating. As an adult, I feel like it's my responsibility to make sure the next generation gets to have those same memories.

Mentioned this to my wife and she's never seen Halloween lights, either. Maybe the fad just hasn't reached New England yet. Maybe it never will. I'm going to watch for any this year.

Yesterday as we were walking past a neighbor's house I pointed out a small tombstone and said sadly "Oh look, their little dog must've died." The wife bought it. "Awwww, that's sad. A little weird, but sad."

This morning the same house had about half a dozen tombstones on the lawn. "Oh look, their other dogs must've died too. And they were all named Rip!"

She socked me in the arm.
