Yeah, nobody knows me in real life here, so I can safely say I liked the movie. My wife took me to see it last night and I thought it would be boring as hell, but actually, it was a pretty good movie. I would recommend it.

I'm going to assume that due to the fact that you went with your wife that after you got home, you had a nice ending to your night. Going to a "chick flick" with not putting up a fuss earns a husband some extra points WHICH you cash in at the end of the night for great sex.

I don't mind admitting that I'm a sucker for most romantic comedies. Pretty Woman, Notting Hill, Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail... I love that stuff.

I haven't seen the new one yet, but I loved the original Japanese version. The good thing about the remake is that it means the original is coming out on DVD!

Also loved Notting Hill. Amelie is one of my 5 favorite films of all time. When Harry Met Sally... that's another great one. I really liked Save the Last Dance too since we're talking romantic dance films.
Sleepless and YGM... er, not so good. And I'm not sold on Shall We Dance at all from the previews. At best it might get a rental (if I ever get back in the habit of renting DVDs).

My name is Bulletpig and I like chick flicks.
It didn't help that I worked through high school at a theater. Man I miss those days of getting to see the movies coming out on Friday two days early on Wednesday Night or Thursday Night to make sure we put them together right.
It was great to brag about it to everyone getting to see Batman and other huge movies first :wink:
ah the good ole days.

What's there to be ashamed about. I'm down with any movie that tells a good story. But that line they say in the preview. Something like: I've been dancing with you since the day we met made me ill. Way to writery. So I will do a big pass on this. Maybe when it come out on dvd . . . for rental only |

I'll be collecting all your man cards at the door. I like a couple of them every now and then, but I don't get all hard core about it like you guys.  Amelie is really such a different movie that I'd put it much more art house than chick-flick. But perhaps I'm just making excuses. I liked Love Actually, When Harry Met Sally and Princess Bride (hey, if Amelie qualifies then so does this movie). |

I was mildly interested in seeing this film, but then Ebert and Roeper sums it up nicely: "Terrible film, terrible film." Add to that the 40 odd percent rating on rotten tomatoes, and the fact that it's a remake, and I'm staying away.
I'm assuming most of you that liked the film never saw the original(1997). One of my girl friends made us rent it to watch it back in college, and it was very good.
Any of you that watched both, was it similar or totally different films?

If you guys liked this one, you should check out "Born Romantic". Umm, my wife told me to say that. It's listed on amazon as November I believe, but then again, it was originally due in October. I think the original would be a better film than the Hollywood remake because of the inate nature of the Japanese businessman culture. It is really considered taboo to let oneself go like in the movie. |
