590 also have a thicker barrel and such which i don't really need. I figured the telescoping stock would come in handy for my wife. I'm 6' 200 lbs and she is 4'8" 95 lbs smile

I plan to buy some snap caps or practice shells as some call them to loosen the slide and break it in along with practice loadings.

Oh, tip I'd never considered that police officer buddy told me.  That flashlight - don't leave it on, use it in bursts between moving and add a red lens cover. Leaving it on makes you a fantastic target which using in bursts helps offset, and the red will keep you from loosing your night vision when you use it.

Basically the light would be to blind the intruder along with seeing what i was going to shoot. A red lens cover would defeat the first part.

Re: the lens cover, I had thought of that, but also considered that if that's the case, won't it also preserve the night vision of whomever you are spotlighting?

You are waiving a gun around, being able to see in the dark is important.  If you are going to fire it you want to know what you are firing it at even if the penalty is they can see too.

Wow if I were to be looking to buy a nice pistol I sure found one. It's from Para. A GI Expert 1911. Figures I'd find a nice 1911 smile I really like them.

Homepage

Review

Only $500 or so to boot. Wow.

Nice review

Also looks like Rock Island Armory makes nice 1911s but I cant find a webpage for them. Also cant find a good custom parts site for 1911s or Mossberg 500s.

Ahhhhhh found a good place for parts.. Wilson Combat

Good place for shotgun parts.. ATI Advanced Technologies

I've fiddled with Para 1911's in the shop. In that price range Springfield destroys them for all around quality. Every Para I've seen and handled has had a cheap finish and flimsy build quality. They feel like they were thrown together by someone who's never touched a gun before.

I've seen a couple of positive reviews, but have held the thing in my hands and don't understand those reviews at all. There's better guns with the same features in the same price bracket.

Wilson Combat is definitely a good place to get parts. All my spare mags for the 1911's are Wilson Combat ETM's.

Since posting I had read more on the Para and they see a lot of bad coatings and such too. guess they aren't worth looking at.

Man the Springfield 1911 longslide sure is purdy smile Wanted a long slide since Terminator LOL.

Just how many guns do you need for home defense anyway? Or are you planning on taking the 'dual wielding' skill?

Just the shotgun. The pistol I have is too in-accurate. And my 410 is single shot..would not be much help and most likely get me killed.

Ya. I have a big backpay coming. We are going to spend about 1/4 of it to fix up everything that is broke, pay off all smaller bills completely, and buy a few things just for us. The rest goes into a savings account. They owe me 3 years worth.

If only they would go back to 1987 when all this started  smile

What do you call those buttstocks with built in shell holders? They usually have 2 shells on each side of the stock. I wanted to look into them instead of the standard  type that fit on the outside. But I cant find any of them and dont know what the name of that type stock is.

Found the answer to my question. They are called Speedfeed stocks. I think it is over doing it but for those that need it , having 14 extra shells on your gun without having to carry it upon your person is handy. I plan to use a single side saddle.

I'd love a nice pistol but they are just too expensive. I can't believe they cost so much these days.

You can also get a shell holder that mount on the side of the receiver itself by using existing screw holes.  They make them to fit the Mossberg 500.  I think they ususally hold 4-5 shells which should be plenty.

If your looking for an good basic 1911, look at the Springfield Armory GI.  I've seen them around here for $550 or so.   I don't know much about the build quality of the Rock Island but SA has good customer service if you have issues with one of their guns.

shh!  the more ammo he has handy the better chance we have of getting a hilarious story where he shoots something like his TV/PC/foot/stove.

If you want to mount the light on that rail, get rings to mount a scope that are the same diameter as the flashlight.  Put the flashlight in the scope ring and mount to your rail.

Hey that's a good idea. Will look for that.

I may be able to skip the rail all together and get a simple barrel mount for a light.

Like this..

I think that would be safe to use on the mag tube also.

Called my local..well closest to me..gunshop. They have some really good prices. Surprised me. Lemme see if I can remember what they said..

Mossberg 590 tactical persuaders run about $379 - $399...not bad at all.Cheaper than i was expecting..I was thinking $500+ The $399 one is parkerized.

Mossberg 500 about $419. Me and the guy on the phone neither one could figure out why the 500 was more expensive than the 590 ..shrug.

Target shot aka birdshot is $5 - $6.50 for 25 rounds
OO Buckshot is $6 - $13 per 25....still cheaper than i was expecting to pay.

So looks like prices are right....now if my ding dang dadburn money would come.

At the gun show in AZ I got mine from a dealer with the two mounted attachments for $329.
I don't know if they hold them in your area, but worth a trip if they do.

The Shot Show? I wish. Would love to go to a nice gun show.

Oh I saw on the news today that the Supreme Court is about to declare the Chicago gun ban against the Right to Bear Arms  law. So that means all state and local anti gun laws will be null for those that can't have them now. Don't ever let them take your guns like Britain did.
