I see some people have an extra name benath their name - couldn't that be used? Not that I know how its used.

And yeah, I have no idea who people are either. I added "razgon" to my name, so people can see who I am - Id rather not have two accounts, way too messy for me

edit: yeah, I can still add people as well, in case someone needs one. But lets keep the mob out, shall we? ;-)

That's the YouTube video not allowing you to embed it. Find a different version of the same video.

I figured it out - under "About" you can post an occupation. Thats the one that shows up under peoples photos, when you hover over it. Thais one way to add your nickname to quick access.

goto your profile and edit other names. then  you can put in your username and select a custom circle.

I got in the other day.  I tried to send a message to my brother-in-law to thank him.  I couldn't.

Honestly, I look at that page, and I can't really do anything without spending a few minutes to figure out how.  I know it's in beta, but this thing is not at all intuitive.

Add segregating your contacts, and I think whoever said Google+ would make Facebook the new MySpace is dreaming.

Yeah, FB may bury a lot of stuff, so that if you want to do something a little more complicated than post on someone's wall or your own, it's tough. The masses don't want to do any of that.

And I think this segregating into circles thing will make people feel icky.  Choosing who's a friend and who's an aquaintance?  Yeah, for some that would be easy, but there are a bunch of people who are FB friends that I wouldn't be comfortable dropping to an aquanitance status.  And vice-versa.

I'm going to keep using it and see if it gains momentum with me, but I'm underwhelmed so far with even the concept.

First off, I agree that it's not super-intuitive at first glance.  Part of it is that it's not doing things the Facebook way, but yeah, I think people are going to be a little confused at first.  That might be a good thing, though, if the Google+ way is a better way.

As far as the circle segregation issue, remember that you're not forced to use the default circle labels.  You could have a "Facebook Level Friends" circle, and continue communicating to exactly the same population, and if you choose you could also add a "Friends I Actually Like" circle to broadcast more sensitive posts to. 

People generally stick to defaults, though, so I think Google has to really really think about what circles to present to people when they first join.

is there  a way to limit to how much someone can appear on your Stream? I added Felicia Day and man can she post!! My entire Stream is just her - no room for anyone else.
I can report her for abuse  but would rather limit my stream.
Muting her will simply remove her - I have her under the 'following' stream.

agreed - that is why I set her up like that - however the stream is a dumping ground for all circles.

Im getting invites for this.. but, honestly, I couldn't care less. This is gonna end the same way as Google Buzz and Google Wave--Nowhere. Trying to launch a competitor to FB at this point in the game is such a dumb idea. Really, it's like someone trying to reinvent the wheel... You just can't.

I don't think it's going to kill Facebook (not for a while, at least) but I think it's going to get a very sizeable user base.  It's snazzier than Facebook, it has some new features that Facebook has yet to implement, and it has the Google name.

My guess is that this will end up sort of like all the competing instant messaging networks way back when.  For a while people have both an ICQ number and an AIM name or whatever, until someone makes a program that lets you connect to both networks seamlessly and it's irrelevant which network you or your friends are on.
