Have you checked out Google Earth 5? if not ... prepare yourself for a phenomenal level of cool.

Google Earth can take you around the world, often on 3D landscapes.

It can take you beneath the ocean's surface to see strange things on the ocean floor. Atlantis? maybe. (more on that later)

It can take you back to the neighborhoods you grew up in and see your old stomping grounds in a 360 degree panoramic view.

You can fly a plane.

You can record tours and share them with others.

The list goes on, but just watch the Youtube Tour to see what it can do.

Now, share some cool coordinates! Here's a few I found:

Chernobyl: 51 23 54.50N 30 06 20.67E

Ground Zero: 40 42 41.73N 74 00 45.44W

Space Shuttle launchpads:  2836'21.65"N  8036'17.76"W

Atlantis?  31 15'15.53N, 24 15'30.53W (turn on the ocean layer in the bottom left panel)

Hollywood Sign: 34 08 02.7N 118 19 18.08W

I love Google Earth, which is why I updated as soon as I heard about the addition of the ocean bottom last week.  What's really fun is reading about a current event or historical event and going to look for it.  Of course the Google Earth Community has usually already tagged the neat stuff so using that is an absolute necessity.

A fun time-waster using Google Earth is to take tours of things.  All NFL stadiums? Check. All MLB Stadiums? Check.  All Premier League soccer/football venues? Check.  And so on.

But then again I've always been fascinated by geography.   icon_lol

Heh, it doesn't take much to make the news.  Atlantis was just a thought exercise by Socrates, it doesn't exist and never has.  There are even more interesting real cultures out there, and interesting historical facts.  For example, the Greeks actually had steam power, one of their inventors created a basic steam engine.  Anthropologists think the reason why they didn't do anything with it was they had plenty of slaves to do the work that the engine could have done.

Google Earth itself is pretty cool, haven't looked at it in a while, I should more often.

I kinda misspoke when I said photos. What I mean is when you zoom down in on a city to street lvl. Im wondering how long ago that stuff was taken. Like my house has a big garden out from it...but that garden hasn't been there in at least 5-8 years. A house sits there now smile

EDIT: Stonehenge is pretty cool. How do I copy the lat/long numbners so I can post them here? I did it once but now I cant remember how.

A not very elegant way of doing it is to add a placemark where you want the coords, then copy them from the "add placemark" dialogue box.  I would imagine there's an easier way though.

For where my house is, they must be a few years because where there is now a huge housing development is just dirt.  It's funny, though, because we are street viewed and that was taken in late 2007.

If you're a WW2/history buff, go here and download the kmz file in the first post. Double clicking that file should open up GE and take you to Normandy.

There's a bunch of airplane storage/graveyards kicking around in the south west.

Here's a few for commercial airlines:
