i'm looking for music which fits the theme of an end of the world movie/game.  i have found that fallout 3's music is a great fit for that game in every way, and i am looking for other non game pieces in the same mold.

for instance.

In the house in a heartbeat - 28 days later - this evokes the desperation of the zombie movie
Pink Floyd -High Hopes  haunting intro, very somber song.  growing up, i pictured this song to a scene of b052's taking off with a load of nukes for russia.
Muse - Time is running out the video makes this obvious, but it has that modern rock 'screaming at the end of the world' feeling.
Metallica - The Memory Remains - i really liked the vibe from the last part of this song, both the guitar and the vocal by marianne faithfull.  damn haunting and i always associate this song with the matrix.

Dude, one title absolutely heads up the list:

Earth Died Screaming by Tom Waits

After that, it becomes a question of thematic songs for the End of the World, or musically fit songs that properly convey post-apocalyptic asthetic?

London Calling - The Clash (thematic and musically fit)
Corona Radiata, Ripe (with Decay) or  Me, I'm Not (the 14 min long version) - NIN (for musically fit, thought not thematically fit)
The Day The World went away - NIN (thematic)
After the Gold Rush - Neil Young (Thematically & Musically fit?) - and arguably the #2 to Earth Died screaming

Metallica - Fight Fire with Fire - Lyrics

Megadeth - Set the World Afire - Lyrics

Megadeth - Rust in Peace...Polaris - Lyrics

Four really good ones right off the top of my head...

both thematically and musically i guess.  my list was a mix of that as well.

i have listened to all of the suggestions so far.  good choices all around.  some very dystopian sounding pieces, a number of heavier 'moment of destruction' songs and a few somber "hymn for the dead' style songs.  thank you everyone.

How about Leonard Cohen - Everybody Knows or perhaps Chris De Burgh - Spanish Train. Possibly Chris Rea - Road to Hell.

Funny thing is, I "acquired" an entire collection of 1930s, 40s, and 50s music, complete with radio commercials.  If only there was some way to insert them into the Fallout 3 radio station music selection.  Each decade pack was about 5+ gigs of music alone.

Hell, I'm thinking about running game of the Fallout pen and paper RPG using with friends and have this music in the background.
