I appreciate the kind wishes guys.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried. I'm starting to get a little stressed out, mainly because I've had surgeries in the past, but none involving my spinal column. And your neck is involved with practically every movement your body makes, so I'm not looking forward to the pain and discomfort of the next few weeks. I've been practicing getting in and out of my neck brace and it is not comfortable at all. The wife is also more comfortable with how it works as word is that I may not be able to lift my arms high enough to handle it myself.

The wife and some of our friends are going to "bedazzle" it tonight while we get together for our weekly dinner-and-a-movie date. I've heard whispers of skulls, crossbones, etc, so it should at least be more fitting of my style. Unfortunately they're limited to the plastic areas as the pads have to be rinsed and washed every few days.

Still, while a little worried, I'd also be lying if I said I didn't think that it's at least a little cool to have a prosthetic joint installed in my vertebrae. Granted, I won't be as mechanically enhanced as Kato's terminator eye, but it's at least something. icon_cool

I registered for classes today, finished gathering all of the education materials I'll need when the semester starts next month, had the mohawk freshly trimmed on Friday, got the house in order, and may try to detail my car so that I can spend the next few weeks not worrying about anything but rest and recovery.

Jaime will likely have her laptop with her while I'm in surgery as she'll be out of the office but not off from work, so I'll see if she can log in under my account to provide updates as the day progresses. She is also the line of communication to family and friends so that everyone who asked to be kept informed will receive updates throughout the day, so I'll be sure to add GT to the list.

She and my brother-in-law will be there from the start to the bitter end, and other area friends are planning to stop in throughout the day to support her and also to be around when I come to. My three softball teams are also planning to make an appearance either at the hospital or our house depending on when I'm discharged and how I'm doing. Hopefully I'll be at home because I'm not sure what the hospital's policy is for beer kegs.

Fortunately my surgeon is one of the best in the world with patients flying in from every continent for his expertise, and the Barrow Institute is one of the top neurological centers in the country. I'm fortunate to live in the Phoenix area to have had such quality care and to have earned access to such a surgeon, so rest assured I could not be in any better hands.

I think it might be time for a drink.
