Porco Rosso

How totally random.  Awesome movie.  Nothing to do with hostages.

Au contraire.  Bunch of little children held hostage in the opening scene, and a person being held hostage is the pivotal device of the climax.

I thought that was the original title of Brokeback Mountain.

I don't know if ransom movies fall under this as well or not, but one I liked a few years back was Along Came A Spider in the Alex Cross series. Though the twist was a bit annoying. And, of course, Ransom.
