I want to start some Aikido training, and am looking for a good school in the NYC area. Any recommendations? Tomorrow I'm going to visit the New York Aikikai on W 18th St. I heard it's one of the best. Any thoughts? Other schools I should visit? I am also willing to look at schools on Long Island if there's one that's damn good.

Sounds good.  Any school which can boast having at least one student of O'Sensei heading up the school is all right in my book.

You may want to check out Aikido and the Dynamic Sphere.  It gives you a great deal of information to chew on when you arent in class.

Secrets of the Samurai is also a must-have for anyone interested in the martial arts.

If I could piggyback on the thread a bit, anyone know a place in the Boston area?
