What's it about?  Gidorah and Mothra only?

Is it as good as "Destroy All Monsters"?

Well its about damn time. I've been dying for this since I heard about it last year. Thankfully some awesome Gojira action is on the way, and I can't wait to watch him smackdown GINO (Godzilla In Name Only) from that awful Matthew Broderick flick.

It totally blows Destroy All Monsters away, and that was my favorite Godzilla film.  Here is the list of monsters in the film:

Godzilla (duh!)
Mothra
Keizer Ghidorah
Gigan
Rodan
Manda
Anguirus
King Caeser
Ebirah (aka The Sea Monster)
Minilla (Baby Godzilla)
Zilla (the American one) - Oh, does Godzilla kick his ass!!  biggrin
Kamacuras
Kumonga
Hedorah (aka The Smog Monster)
Varan
Gaira
Baragon
Gezora
Titanosaurus
Megaguiras
Mechagodzilla
Godzilla Junior

"Oh no, it is Godzilla!!!!"

*mouth continues to move for 10 seconds afterwards*

Ah, the joys of translated movies. biggrin

In all honesty though, I've always enjoyed the Godzilla films. Yeah, most of my contact with them was via MST3K, but they were a good watch.

Grew up watching them long before they became an MST3K staple. Love them all and "Man-In-Suit" films are such wonderfully stupid fun films. smile

Okay, that was fun.  The throw down with Gaijinzilla was funny as hell, if a little anti-climactic.  And the battle with Rodan, King Caeser and Anguirus (I think those are right) was freakin' awesome.  Hilarious stuff in there.

If you're remotely a fan of giant monster movies, it's a great and enjoyable way to waste a couple hours.

Crap, do I have to be the douchebag here by saying that I don't think "Final Wars" is all that good?

First off, I love Godzilla. Been watching since the 70's.

But the more recent Godzilla movies, while having better special effects, haven't really been that good.

I hate to think that this one will really be the last. It just wasn't as good as I was hoping.......spoilers?
.
.
.
.
.

-some of the monsters look ridiculous compared to their original design; King Cesare, for example.

-what's with Godzilla taking out all of them so easily? Or even having only certain ones be tougher than others?

Of course, I know these movies aren't supposed to be taken seriously, but I just think they could've done a better job with it.

The original '54 was good.

Godzilla Raids Again, the second one, was good.

Godzilla vs Mothra was good.

Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla was good.

Destroy All Monsters..good.

The latest few films? Ehh.

Finally saw this dvd, loved it!

I'm a fan of the original ones, up to around Destroy All Monsters. The newer ones  never really satisfied me, they were too bright and shiny or something.

This one was a great throwback, in spirit if not style.  There were actually some great lines in this movie that made me bust out laughing.  The characters(human) were memorably whacky and likable.  The fights themselves were action packed and not the least bit boring to me.  The new version of King Kong could have benefited if PJ had seen this movie before making KK.   This was a worthy new addition to my Godzilla memories.

I thought it was alot of fun and very watchable.  I normally fast forward to the Godzilla scenes...but I actually watched the whole movie...and liked it.

I'm in the middle of this one and it's just laughable how terrible it is. It's like ok lets make the matrix only with monsters! Though Captain Gordon saves the movie with his wooden horrible one liners

"Ozaki *pause* fire the phazer"

Anyways I detest this movie, and the fact that Godzilla is a part of it well, glad he's finally dead cause this movie buried him.

I think your missing the point of Godzilla movies.  It's the exact thing you're talking about (the cheesiness/guy in rubber suit stuff) that makes these movies great!  Look at the American made Godzilla movie with Matthew Broderick.  No cheesiness, all CG and it was horrible and it was NOT Godzilla.  Watch the "behind the scenes" stuff on the DVD it's amazing to watch and gives you a new appreciation for Godzilla films.  And it's funny as hell!

Also, Rya Kitamura (the director) is one of the best Japanese film directors.  Just watch VERSUS if you ever get the chance.

No I get that Godzilla movies to begin with are supposed to be funny, but this one took itself way to seriously. There was no humor in the Godzilla fights at all. I don't know just thing it was a terrible movie, which is bad I used to love his old stuff. Oh well can't please everyone I guess, glad you enjoyed it though.

Ok.  Fair enough.  But you should really watch the behind the scenes stuff on the DVD.  I promise you will be amazed and laugh at the same time. biggrin

Because Jet Jaguar is too much of a pussy to be in a film like this. In short:

GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I loved it start to about five minutes before it finished. This film had everything! Passion! Energy! Genius opening credits that chronicle the storied history of Godzilla! Hilariously spot-on mockery of Japanese pop culture! Evil aliens led by a guy wearing more make-up than David Bowie! Godzilla destroying everything in sight including pwning GINO! An American bad-ass wielding a futuristic samurai sword! Two Hawaiian shirt guys stationed to watch over Godzilla in Antartica! The two little Mothra girls! Mothra itself going out in a blaze of glory! Minilla!

If you're even remotely a fan of Godzilla from your childhood, you absolutely owe it to yourself to watch this immediately!

THIS MOVIE LACKS NOTHING!!!!

I second everything whiteboyskim said about FINAL WARS!  Absolutely great Godzilla film from top to bottom.

Except, Jet Jaguar being a pussy!   Jet Jaguar is so darn cool!  Godzilla vs. Megalon is one of my favorites and that tag team match of Godzilla/Jet Jaguar vs. Megalon/Gigan was classic!

Even with the absence of Jet Jaguar, the movie was pretty good. The main problem with it was too much non-Godzilla filming. The wasted WAY too much screen time on the people and not enough on the monsters. The battles were way too short....

I also had an interesting conversation with my son explaining that no this wasn't a remake or part 2 of the American one and that no, the American one is NOT the original/real Godzilla....

I dunno.....for cheesyness I prefer my Godzilla flicks to be more along the lines of "vs. the Sea Monster" or "vs. King Kong"

These newer ones, while i'm happy they were still being made, just aren't doing much for me.
