I've always loved gmail, and especially loved that I can use my personal domain email address with it through Google Apps.

The recent change is terrible though.  I don't want Google filtering emails for me...  I hate this whole "Promotions" business...

I'm giving it till Fall.

You can turn it off. Just disable the new secondary tabs / filters and you go back to having one normal inbox.

It could be his fault, maybe this makes it easier for them to snoop...

Lol, no one else dislike the decent changes?

I do use Gmail, but all of those accounts are forwarded to my Hotmail account, so I never actually see the Gmail site.

You can teach it how to filter.  If you drag a message between the tabs it will remember for future emails.  So for example emails from Gaming Trend were originally going to Updates tab, but after dragging one over to the Forums tab they all go there now.

I haven't really been a fan of any changes Gmail has made in the last year (like the tiny Compose window), so more crap I didn't as for isn't really a surprise.  It feels like they're working to make people switch to something else.

I think it's kind of ludicrous that they only give you 5 preset filters.  If you're going to do this, give us the ability to create our own rules and filters for tabs.

Yeah, the tabs are terrible. I want to view my email at a glance. Sorting between the different tabs is extra work. Fortunately, there's a way to opt out of that by pressing the "+",  and I hadn't thought of clicking that as it isn't immediately obvious that's where you should click, rather than say, settings. On the tablet, there's no way to opt out though. I have a 7" tablet and vertically, the tabs take up half the space making it look very cluttered. Ugh. Worst idea ever.

I like the tabs.  I can go to the "Promotions" tab and easily clear all the crap without disturbing the ~20 messages I want to keep in my Inbox.

I also like it automagically segregating the Facebook/LinkedIn messages.   thumbsup

Yeah, I love the change. At first, I didn't like the tiny Compose window either, but it grew on me and now I like it. They're rethinking the way we always do email. This is a good thing. We need that.

Also a fan of the tabs.   Being able to get to the important stuff is so much better imho.

I had the same reaction.  Given a little training though, I feel like my otherwise unruly inbox is more usable at this point.

I liked the idea, but lack of custom tabs killed it for me.  I went back to the old, unfiltered system.

I've been using Gmail since the beta days when you had to beg someone for an invite but I've rarely used the actual website. As long as Gmail keeps doing a great job of sending mail from my phone and from my Thunderbird mail account then I don't really care what they do on their website.
