Holy shit, we're having our first winter storm in Sacramento, and the winds have been howling all night. Last night my wife said our garbage cans would probably fall over. I told her probably not since they were overloaded. Well, woke up this morning, our trash can and recycle can has tipped over, with our litter all over the neighbors yards. We're not the only one, but lets just say, I won't need a shower now

I am without power. My dog refuses to go outside to use the bathroom (not that I blame him really). The sound here is f'ing insane.
And this is supposed to go on till Monday? This blows.

Doh! I was reading on CNN somewhere that not only are they expecting 10 feet of snow in the high counties, but upwards of 140MPH wind gusts. Yes, that's Cat 3 level on the hurricane scale. EDIT: Here we are.: "The combination of heavy snow and powerful winds will likely cause frequent whiteout conditions at the highest elevations," National Weather Service forecasters said.
"Travel in the Sierra will put your life at risk. Extremely high snowfall rates will make it impossible for road crews and emergency personnel to keep roads passable and to assist stranded vehicles."
Winds in the mountains could gust to 145 mph, forecasters said, the strength of a Category 4 hurricane. A Category 4 can inflict extreme damage. Wow.

I'm loving that there's gonna be 10 feet of snow in Tahoe though. Just sucks that it has to be miserably stormy at home for it to be so nice there.

Global warming, hah! He said it was a winter storm. YOU SHOULD READS TEH POSTS, LOL!!!1 Global "warming" means energy gets added to the atmosphere, which will increase the wind speed, and thus increases storms. While it does raise the average temperature of the planet (you can ask Greenland and Antarctica about this, to name a few places), it doesn't mean cold air just magically disappears. I know you were joking, but the Mr. Wizard explaination is for the kids playing at home.

We're getting a nasty storm blowing into Salt Lake right now too. Gonna be a long night...
EDIT: 40-50 mph winds have blown the fence down on the east side of the house, and I found shingles all over my backyard during my 4:00 am damage-assessment flashlight stroll. Yay.

Apparently Santa Clara 45 miles south of SF is pretty much flooded. My girl just got there and said one of the malls was closed due to water damage.

As a Boston resident, I would like to thank California for using that extreme wind to bring New England some nice, warm Mexican air. Last Thursday we had biting sub-zero wind chill, and this week it looks like we're going to get as high as the 60s!
Thanks!

Yeah, MD/DC is in the low 60s for today and tomorrow. Last week I left for work one day and it was 18 degrees, and this morning it was like 51. It wierded me the hell out (and has set my sinuses and allergies into full blown attack thanks to the drastic change-YAY!! I love feeling sick when the weather changes!)
