I guess they couldn't be bothered to go all the way up to the Wall to fetch Benjen for the family portrait.

I've finally gotten around to watching this. I'd almost bought the BRD's a number of times, but my hefty netflix, DVD and BRD backlog always deterred me.  Anyhow I was ready to pull the trigger, but then my local public library acquired many copies of Season 1-3. I'm just a few episodes into Season 2 and enjoying it very much. I read the 1st 3  books, but wasn't wow'd by them and I'm actually enjoying watching this much more - rare for me as I almost always prefer books.

Oh this part makes me very happy:

Quote
There is no reason to change things up now, especially since Benioff and Weiss are the two people, other than creator George R. R. Martin, who know how the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ story ends. While Martin has yet to finish and publish the last two novels in the Game of Thrones story cycle, he has revealed key parts of the plot to the showrunners. That way they can plan for the future now, and there’s some contingency plan

My biggest fear is Martin (or myself) will keel over and die before I find out how the freaking story ends lol.

They visited him at his home last year for an entire week just to talk about the last book. Martin doesn't know the details, but he knows how it will all end in broad strokes, and he's told them all of this stuff. They seem to have focused on the fates of individual characters.

I've been waiting for this ever since your reactions about the red wedding.  Early on in S3, I thought they may run the season with this episode as the season ending.

So, when does the celebratory party start?

Hooray!!!  Such a fun show!  I do find it amusing how quickly the actor who plays Bran is growing.  If they don't finish this soon he's going to be 6 feet tall and Hodor will neve rbe able to carry him around lol.

Spoiler for Hiden:
So I haven't read the books as close as many others, nor do I remember many details.  Did they ever reveal who actually poisoned Joffrey?  I thought a friend of mine said they heavily implied it was Margaery, but from the previews it didn't look like they were going that route.  Can't really tell for sure, and I honestly don't remember.

I also don't remember ever having it be so explicit that Brienne was in love with Jaime, I thought it was always more of an implied thing.

Book stuff below, which means they spoil some stuff from upcoming episodes:

Spoiler for Hiden:
Littlefinger talks about the whole thing, but he remains a big vague and makes a point out of being an unreliable narrator on purpose. What we do know for sure is that Sansa brought the poison (unknowingly) to the wedding, while Olenna Tyrell took that poison from her. Littlefinger hinted (if I recall correctly) that Olenna didn't actually do the poisoning herself.

As for the show, I feel pretty certain that they've gone with the Olenna as the poisoner here. We clearly see her lift the rightmost gem from Sansa's necklace (it's so blindingly obvious what she's doing that I'm surprised so few people picked up on it), and she's the person sitting closest to Joffrey's cup before Tyrion picks it up the final time.

I don't think the books ever mention Brienne being in love with Jaime. I don't think she really is, though she does reluctantly admire him. I think her reaction in the show her simply not knowing how to respond to such an accusation from the Queen Regent.

Ohhh thanks!  Gonna have to rewatch that now.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Olenna is that old lady right, played by Dianna Rigg?

I always felt that Brienne and Jamie had an unrequited love/respect relationship, not necessarily a sexual desire but definitely deeper than either would care to admit.
