Another good episode but definately dissapointing they dont show any battle scenes. I know its a TV sries and they have a limited budget compared to a big movie but its still HBO so I expected more shown.
Tyrion still rules though.

It's been a few years since I read the books but I don't remember any large battle scenes. In Game of Thrones (I think, again, it's been years) I remember being surprised that the first big battle was sort of referred to in the past. When I think of epic fantasy I always assume there will be big battles. I don't think it affected the show or the book at all. Still, I'm with you. I wish there was a big Braveheart battle scene. My wife, who generally hates fantasy, is incredibly addicted to this show. She was pissed after Sunday's episode. Such a great HBO series. I hope it cleans up come award season.

Pretty sure I remember the fight of Robb's diversion /w the Lannisters told through the eyes of Tyrion, which is disapointing since they just show him getting knocked out then waking up later, when I believe he does kill a man. Might be wrong though. As for no big battles

Sibel Kekilli was a good choice for Shae. I wonder if she's fluent in english and just puts on the accent for the show. A pretty amazing woman that is, not just for her prior work, but her whole history. Glad to see her in an American show, and she's just looking stunning.

Oh yeah! That was one badass battle scene. I think you are right on Tyrion's POV as well. I should read Feast of Crows again to prepare for the new book. I just hate to slog through it again.

I'm just finishing up a re-read of AFFC now, and am finding it far more enjoyable the second time around. Helps that I'm reading it for what it is rather than being frustrated by what it isn't (i.e. most of my favorite characters being absent).

She was raised in Germany in a Turkish family so I'm guessing her accent is authentic

I wouldn't agree with that. I think GRRM shows wether your honorable, not, or in between bad things can happen. War, deceit and treachery are brutal to all and basically nobody goes unscathed.

Took a quick glance through the thread and didn't see this link DO NOT click link if you haven't seen episode 9 yet... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owf6D2vfZqM&feature=player_embeddedpretty funny but it seems a little fake... (the dude holding the camera comments make me laugh) "they liiiiiieeed to him!" even if it is fake... i think that if youtube was as widespread as it is now when the first book came out... I think there would be several authentic good versions of this type of reaction. maybe there should be a film documentary that films people reading the series (and then just show the highlights of when they get to the good parts)

I don't know, dating a 22 year-old playmate kind of falls on the "good week" side. Lol, seriously, youre a 52 year old guy aout with a 22 year old playmate. You defend her honor and then fight for her honor. You recieve wounds so minor that you go back into the bar and get another drink and Im pretty sure that the evening had a happy ending for him. Yeah, Im not sure about the whole week but Id bet the house that he had a fantastic evening. I had a night like that once, involving a outside the bar scuffle with my dates ex boyfriend. I can guarantee you, the few bumps and bruises I ended up with were well worth it! On the plus side, since the guy jumped me without warning, in front of witnesses ( including one of the bars bouncers ), I went home with the babe while he went to jail.

Okay, finale kind of surprised me as I'd always heard from folks that the reason they loved the GoT series of books was because it was a realistic depiction of a medieval empire. Apparently I have a different definition of "realistic". and the boy king never rose above comic book villain on the goofy ass meter. i had hoped for a little more meat on his story. although littlefinger is well on his way to being a great character...as well as the eunuch. and dinklage continues to steal the show. overall, i enjoyed this first season. i just don't think it's as great as folks who've read the books keep saying it is.

They probably meant a different thing from what they told you, in that case. A Song of Ice and Fire is a realistic depiction of a fantasy world. And Joffrey is (or so he believes) the son of a powerful father who neglects him and a bitter, manipulating and slightly insane mother who fucks up his world view. That, and he's a teenager who suddenly got handed a large amount of power and who has a strong need to shape his own path beyond anyone's direct control. A lot of people would end up looking like evil caricatures under such circumstances.

People liked the more realistic motivations and political struggles of these low fantasy kingdoms, but not that it was completely realistic. Sorry you don't like it, but seeing things into the series that others weren't putting on it is just a recipe for disappointing yourself.

Seeing things into my quote that I didn't put there is even worse. I actually wrote Overall, I enjoyed this first season. and being told it was realistic and thinking that meant realistic isn't really a case of "seeing things into the series that others weren't putting on it". It's a case of thinking that realistic meant...well...realistic.
