Man it really bothers me where the story is going. If you're bothered now... you know, the best thing about knowing the books and watching people who haven't read them watch the series is getting to watch them squirm I couldn't take it and read spoilers on Wikipedia and....spoilers about the book (guessing the rest of season 1) There's a reason Martin made such a large cast of characters(many who havn't been introduced yet). What happens throught the end of book/season 1 is the tip of the iceberg.

Yeah, only problem with using the wolves is that they must be hideously expensive to have on screen. Also, they have to use pups of various ages, difficult to do in a production timeframe.
I suspect they'll wait a while until the wolves are fully grown in the story, then we'll see more of them at full size since they can use the same full grown wolves.

Someone mentioned that they have been having issues with the wolves on the set. I would expect very little wolf-action to be in this series to be honest (but if you think about it there wasn't a huge amount in the books either).

Production realities are pretty evident in parts, and usually they're the main part where things don't match up with the show and how I imagined it. The Dothraki "horde" for instance - I imagined huge armies crossing the plains with storms of dust behind them. In the show, it's like 20 dudes Same with King Robert's hunt. I imagined a big hunting party that causes a lot of confusion. In the scene - four guys! Still, it's pretty damn close and they've obviously spared little expense with set and costume design.

I actually thought this last episode was a bit slower than I'd imagined it would be. It left me wondering how they can possibly finish the book off with only 2 eps as I thought there was still a lot more that had to happen. Should be a crazy ride.

The first book ends with several cliff-hangers, so the first season should finish that way too.

Yeah, I'd rather them have their well realized aesthetics right now than tons of big CG (as opposed to the mass amounts of smaller CG work they have) that will look stale in a few years anyway. You're right though, it would be nice to get at least one big establishing shot of the Dothraki horde, just to suitably impress upon viewers why Robert and many others were very concerned about Daenarys taking up with them.

Dinklage continues to own this show. The two dimensional characters of the Queen and her son still continue to NOT impress me. I'm hoping they aren't this "comic book evil" in the books...or perhaps there's more to come that will flesh the characters out and elevate them beyond a Rocky and Bullwinkle villain. I'm holding out hope. Also, just a thought, but if you're the leader of a barbarian tribe of feared warriors, try not to always look like you just came out of an audition for the Robert Smith story.

I'm holding out hope. The queen is actually more nuanced in the TV series than in the books. They're not really evil, they're just very selfish and somewhat insane. Also, just a thought, but if you're the leader of a barbarian tribe of feared warriors, try not to always look like you just came out of an audition for the Robert Smith story. The eye shadowing is to reduce sunlight glare in the eyes, according to Jason Momoa (IIRC). He supposedly picked that up from real history and brought it to the show.

They never actually show him getting killed. So he could return. Unlikely. The guy he faced off against was Ser Meryn Trant, a kingsguard. He's shown again in the throne room scene where they kick out Ser Barristan, the ex-head of the kingsguard. He didn't seem hurt. Syrio was a well-liked character, but his part in the story is done.

He had a lasting influence on Arya though. Syrio and his lessons are mentioned about a million times more in the Arya chapters.

Definitely. I hope they manage to keep that in there, despite it being internal dialogue in the books.

In the end, it will be revealed that all the strings have been pulled by Or possibly by Bastard...you owe me a new monitor for that. I'm really late to the party, but have taken advantage of a friend's DVR and caught up with the series this weekend. Still processing a few of the specifics, but overall, I'm completely blown away by how well they did. It's almost eerie how nearly everything is exactly how I had pictured it in my minds eye. The only person I think they totally whiffed on was Lysa Arryn. I thought I remembered her being described as a very plump woman, and while the actress does a great job of bringing the crazy, I didn't think she looked quite right.

Yeah, pretty sure she's fat in the books. But now whenever I think of her, all I can think of is... that scene. Personally I'm happy with all casting except Catelyn. Everytime I see her I just think "schoolmarm." I imagined someone a bit more classically feminine while still having that tough side. But I know they had to recast her at the last minute because the original actress dropped out, so they probably had a limited selection.
