I thought the third episode was really good, considering that how much exposition and stage setting it had in it. It was nice to see the contrast in the Lannister and Stark parenting styles. Ned Stark is well meaning, but totally out of touch with Sansa, and seems to relate much better to Arya, although he showed a bit of regret when the reality of what he was training her to do sunk in. Syrio Forel was pretty much how I pictured him from the book (except for the lack of a bald head). Cersei Lannister on the other hand, seems to have a much closer, but twisted and unhealthy, relationship with her son Joffrey. She's clearly using him, and intends to be the one standing behind him actually ruling the Kingdom.
The scenes at the Wall were great, and Peter Dinklage continues to steal the show. It's a shame we haven't seen much of Ghost at all, but I guess there's only so much you can fit into an hour.

Ned Stark is well meaning, but totally out of touch with Sansa, and seems to relate much better to Arya, although he showed a bit of regret when the reality of what he was training her to do sunk in. I think the training scene with Arya and Syrio was the highlight of last night's episode...fit my vision from the book almost perfectly. I loved the lighthearted tone of the whole scene, and the actors both did a great job. The girl they picked to play Arya is pretty much perfect in my opinion. The expressions on her face made the whole scene, ranging from confusion and frustration, to enjoyment and even pride. I have to say that I didn't get the same impression of Ned in the background during that scene though. I felt like his expression was more one of pride in his daughter's ability...until he started to have a little flashback of his own, as evidenced by the sounds of battle that came up in the background. I think his look of worry was more about his own memories than concern over Arya's interest in learning the water dance. It's definitely open to interpretation though...

It's probably meant to be both. Ned knows that both war and winter are coming, considering all the news he just got in the episode. He's remembering his own battles, and knowing that he's training his daughter to be in those horrible battles to come.

Perhaps Ned was thinking how he gave Sansa a doll and Arya a fencing instructor? Swing and a miss on the first one but just right on the second. And add me to the fans of the work Peter Dinklage is doing to bring Tyrion to life. It has been awhile since I've read any of the books so it is fun when a character I had forgotten is mentioned such as Sir Ilayn Payne (sp?), The Knight of Flowers and the blind commander of the Black Watch.

Episode 3 was pretty damn boring. I'm guessing they had to set up some story for the coming weeks?

haven't watched it yet, but the book wasn't non-stop action either, so there are going to be slow parts.

Loved Ep3 personally - so much good stuff in there, so much character drama, and the Elfqueen is finally getting into her role as a Khaelesi and that damn brother of her needs to learn some manners.
Syrio - the dancing master is awesome as well...gotta love Ned Stark.

Tip: don't read the book while watching the series. I've been listening to the audiobook on the way to work because I want to refresh my memory before I buy the latest book, and the series just seems shallow in comparison. I think I would enjoy it more if I didn't know about all the details that they skipped. Episode 3 really didn't do it for me. I like Arya, though.

I am currently reading the book for the first time while watching the series. You can't expect the show to have every detail; no movie is as deep as the book on which it's based. I think GoT has done a good job of covering the main points and, most importantly, making it easy to follow the storyline.

I don't think they had a very good camera angle on him. Shooting him from above made him look smaller. I think the actor playing is is ginormous.

no talk about this weeks episode? I expected The Mountain to be bigger. i think you'll find him to be much larger when you see him later. you couldn't tell from those few shots of him on a horse, but the Conan Stevens (the actor) is 7 feet tall, 320 pounds, and pretty much solid muscle. he's probably about the best actor you could pick for the role...

Wow, the scene between Cersei and Robert in this episode was really powerful. I don't think they ever got to have that moment in the books.

Yeah I was gonna say that scene was just awesome. I re-watched it this morning and wow, the acting was superb. Cersei plays off differently than I imagined her, but I think that's a lot to do with Lena Headey and how they are re-tooling her a bit to make her more likable. Or maybe I just like Lena Headey too much. - - - Oh yeah, not that I'm complaining, but what's up with that cutie Renly and the flower dude? I had no idea there were gay characters in the book - did I totally miss that or did they just decide to throw that in?

Oh yeah. You missed it in the book. It's subtle in book 1 but in the other 3 it's pretty overt.

There's supposedly at least one other gay character in the book too, but it appears he has been cut from the series. They may write him in at a later time, but I suspect they'll just merge him with another character. There's also a bit of lesbian action going on in a few places.
Now, can we all stop obsessing about the gay stuff? (not really aimed at GT, but at the Internet reactions to the episode)

Not to belabor it, but were people unhappy with it or shocked or what? I hadn't heard anything til you just mentioned it. I thought it was pretty hot, but tastefully hot. Well, maybe not so much the sound effects lol.

I started it up immediately after this weeks was over and it played without a hitch (Comcast is my cable provider). Great episode pretty much all the way around.

I started it up immediately after this weeks was over and it played without a hitch (Comcast is my cable provider). Great episode pretty much all the way around. It took me multiple tries for the site to finally load around 10:30, then it was constantly buffering and the quality was terrible. Given that I have a 20Mbps cable connection and have streamed video from HBO with excellent quality in the past, I think it had something to do with the website. It's not a big deal though...just try again tomorrow night... Man it really bothers me where the story is going. If you're bothered now...
