The only one that doesn't seem to fit is Daenerys.  That actress seems a bit too, I dunno, waifish.  Then again, I suppose that would fit for events in AGOT.

I never got the idea that Dany was anything but waifish from any of the books.

GRRM approved of her being chosen, so she must fit his view of what the character looks like.

I've always pictured her being similar to the actress pictured.  Blond hair and fairly waifish.  I've only read Game of Thrones though, so maybe she changes later on.

I think i got that form the first Jamie/Cersei encounter...plus she has had 3 kids, is pampered and spoiled.....I really did see her more in the line of Atia in Rome.  Now Catelyn...there is thin and hard...unlike her sister

Dance was always planned.  Well, not always but at least since the original plan to expand past a trilogy.  Feast is the 5 year gap book.  Dance is also dealing with the 5 year gap but from what I've heard, Martin has moved the entire timeline up so the series should still hold to 7 books/

I'm actually excited about this series- Sean Bean is one my all time favorites (Loved him in LOTR "I care not" and in Equilibirum where he read poetry), and the books are great, AND we need more good fantasy movies...

also, there is a small, very small hope, that if this succeds well, we might get to see a similar project based on the Malazan books

Then you need to go look up Sharpe's Rifles and the ensuing series of films.  Sean Bean front and center as an officer promoted from the ranks during the Napoleonic Wars.

Agreed, IMO Sean Bean proved in Sharpe's that he can be consistently good over a decent length series. The fact that this is being shot in Northern Ireland gives me some hope for it. I do however think Southern Ireland would probably be a better setting for Westeros.

I hope they're smart and just offer the season available on demand from places like Amazon Video and the Zune Marketplace.  That way I can see the episodes as they come out and pay them some money for their effort without having to get cable + HBO (or wait a year for the DVDs) just to see this .

This is HBO, dude.  You're going to have to wait.  Regular subscribers would not be very happy if HBO suddenly started making episodes of their TV shows available on demand for a nominal fee elsewhere.
